So he is a Non Muslim not because he imprisoned children in a basement for years on end, but because he declared himself a prophet?!?!

You can commit sins and crimes and still be a Muslim.

You can’t acknowledge anyone as a prophet after Mohammad (pbuh) and still be a Muslim, however.
