During last month's semi-final for Britain's Miss Universe candidate Bukhari received the most public votes. Britain has never won the title. It is increasingly possible that its first victor might also be its first Muslim representative.
England often puts forward average looking entrants (Preeti Desi is an obvious one but desi or white they are never in the same league as the girls from the other countries), no surprise we never win..

I don’t get this sharia law rant when britain is not muslim to begin with. We have started to get it across the pond as well, which makes me wonder if it is inspired by UK / european “activism”?

Ok so its all well and fair that she particpates. Good luck to her. But ummm...there's really no need to go to this extreme to become a role model. You could be a good social servant, give a lot of charity, impart educational guidance, counsel muslim teens, etc etc etc...I mean, stick to the basics instead of justifying participating in a contest that cleary contridicts your faith. Just don't bring the moozlim in it. DO it cuz you like it, but don't be trying to become a muslim role model for god sake...you're just a muslim model.

These are just publicity stunts......creating such controversies will surely make her popular other wise she is just another wana be girl participating in a dumb competition. I dont think that most of the muslim world even cares what she is doing or are even aware of who she is.....i would have never known about her if not posted on this site.

i dont like the fact that she is using Islam as her claim to fame. Don't say you're a role model for Muslim women, otherwise don't be in shocked when a couple of mullahs have issues with her strutting herself on stage in bikini.

But one thing that always surprises me is that when a christian, hindu, jew girl reaches that level, she never brings in the religious aspect but somehow every time a muslim girl reaches that level of show biz/fashion model, they see the need of throwing in religious justification of how their religion allows them to do so or religion is actually suppressing so we should rebel. I mean what the heck was the need of this statement?

I've never seen a christian or hindu girl saying that I want all the hindu girls to feel that they can do this.
I think because she, or other ladies in that sort of situation see themselves as trail blazers because its not a norm. no harm done and not a biggie.

She isn't killing anyone, she is doing her own thing. Blaming her for allowing non-Muslims to hate Islam and Muslims is a cop out, because if some Muslims learned to control their behavior and not be riled up over the personal choice of a Muslim woman, there wouldn't be so much discussion.
It's time to look at your own and realize that you can't force Muslim women to do what YOU want. If a Muslim woman wants to wear a headscarf, that's her choice. If a Muslim woman chooses to participate in a beauty pageant and wear a bikini, it's her choice as well.
Although I do find it ironic that the same people who are crying over this have no problem fantasizing about the number of white women who don the bikini lol

Yes and if that muslim woman goes around telling other muslim women to be like her because she's oh so pious, I'm sure that would raise eyebrows too just like this lady stirred up some controversy be saying she wants to be a role model for all muslim women when infact this has nothing to do with Islam. That's all we're saying, she's still doing her own thing, living her own life the way she wants to, no one locked her up for wearing a bikini. So it's all good.

Beauty pageants seem to rile GS members more than the fact that Pakistani women are largely illiterate and have their schools bombed by religious fanatics. This thread has 4 pages and people seem to be more upset over this. It’s sad, really.
