These competitions do give women an opportunity to show their intelligence.

Intelligent has nothing to do with participating in a beauty pageant and I’m sure you know this very well. A competition that judges women based on their looks gets praise and if men do it, its called being a pig? Give me a break!

Good for her. She’s pretty and intelligent and I wish her the best of luck. But what’s with the “I want to be a role model for muslim women?” My idea of a role model among muslim women is someone who knows how to balance between deen & duniya. She sure can be a role model for desi girls in general but these competitions have nothing to do with Islam.

Yeah, I don’t get why these women like to differentiate themselves and take the glory for being the ‘first muslim’ in the competition. What you do has no bearing on your religion, and your religion certainly doesn’t approve what you do, so why not just keep the two separate and concentrate on winning the competition like all the other normal girls? What’s with the making history complex?
