LOL! I find it amazing that one links terrorism and Islam right away in your minds. The discussion is about identity and faith yet you bring up terrorism. Why is that? Is being considered a terrorist part of your identity as an Muslim American.
And Queer, the Hijab ruling was taken to the courts in France. They lost, but they did fight it legally and politically.

I have already said we do not have to guard our faith and identity in USA as we have freedom of expression more than any Muslim country can give us. Our identity and faith is not in question in USA. What is questioned is the acts of lunacy by our so called Muslim brothers who do it all in the name of Islam.
So far in this whole discussion people are just passing the buck in either admitting that Muslim in America are apologetic or not.
Isn't this actually the problem. We dwell too much on deciding what the problem is instead of actually doing something about it. You have an issue with how Muslims are portrayed on any news site, there is a contact us and editorial column and you write a letter. Similar thing for TV and radio as well. The simple fact is that most of us (not all) are only good for lip service rather than actually doing something about it.
Perfect. TLK will you apologize to me for all the Pakistani killed by Americans?
They are weeding out the terrorists and you should be thankful to them. If you question innocent civilians killed in their war on terror , then Islam itself allows collateral damage. You need to read Islamic fiqh of war.
LMAO! I am sorry apologetic is not the word to use. ***** is the proper word. Why? Simple:
You will condemn Terrorist and apologies to Americans for the actions of terrorist that kill innocents.
When asked to condemn and apologize for Americans killing innocent Muslims, you defend it.
Yeah that by no means is apologetic
Libran i put my money where my mouth is. I do send e-mails to the organizations saying they inaccurately reflect the views of so and so community. 99% of the time it is ignored.
I completely agree on this one. The headlines of eid festivities to be toned down because of sept 11 were annoying. What exactly is the implication? Why after nine years on a random eid would a solitary act of terrorism be cause for toning down? if you wish to remember the dead on Eid (why?) when will they tone Eid down for the hundreds of thousands of lesser-value deaths in negligible countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, a consequence of 'we fight them there so we dont have to fight them here'?
There are scores of current tragedies that could have been reason to tone down the Eid festivities. The flood in Pakistan. The involvement of Mohammad Aamer in spot fixing.
It is a reflection not so much on american muslims.. no reason to suppose that people from the same genetic stock and similar upbringings as those in Europe have much else wrong with them except for circumstances. It is on american society in general. if you have protests against mosques being proposed as the norm throughout the country, if you have lieutenant governors running for office questioning whether Islam is a religion vs nationality or cult and september 11th is being observed by some by burning Qurans, what exactly can people who just want a normal life do?
the largest muslim gathering outside of a muslim majority country is the ISNA convention.
the muslim community here is more active than most countries, and much more visible
large masajid built, islamic schools and yes islamic college, TV channels, magazines, investment companies, you name it.
apologetic? I dont think so.
if we are going to base our assumptions on the few muslim people in media as being too soft, then I suppose we cantblame people for basing their assumptions about muslims in other countries e.g. pakistan when they see mobs of angry shouting people burning flags and shops etc.
My mom's younger sister and her family live in NYC and I must say my cousins have much more freedom than I can imagine in Pakistan. To them, the United States comes first, they love their country, and they've always say that the US gives them their identity.
But, when terrorism is mentioned, they become embarrassed. Muslim Americans aren't apologetic, they are just embarrassed of the Muslims who have chosen to impose Shariah upon the West.

huh...terrorism is not the same as shariah
nor is anyone imposing shariah anywhere from what I can tell, save for nutjobs like funsbury park dude and that anjem dude in UK and other such assorted blowhards who are despised by the local muslims community at large
the terrorists that attacked on 9/11 were not imposing shariah, nor did they follow it, based on accounts of their extra curriculars.

That is what we know. The Western media however has managed to convince the populace that the main purpose of the terrorists is to take over. Just like Pakistani media has convinced the Pakistanis that the Western nations are going all out to spread "Behiyai" in Pakistan.

fair point. in that case my criticism is really just confined to the folks generating sycophantic/apologetic headlines whoever they are. my knowledge of them does not reach much further beyond that level.
danish muslims acted in a psychotic way when they burned the cartoonist alive, i hope muslim americans never come down to that level. how exactly did they expect nonmuslims to react when they did such a heinous act. although it did hurt muslim sentiment when he drew the figure of the holy prophet they ended up giving muslims all over the world a bad name by doing what they did. they weren't bold for what they did, they were seen as mentally f-ed up.
if this pastor does end up going through with his lunatic act(highly unlikely that he will) how would muslim americans react?
"May you burn in hell!" one of the men shouted at Westergaard.
"Can we talk about it?" the cartoonist asked.
"May you burn in hell," the man repeated.
oops you're right it's what they said when they attacked him with an axe, "burn in hell". apologies. it was 5 yrs ago, i forgot some of the details of that whole psychotic drama. anyways, hope something similar doesn't happen, hope it's taken in a mature way. it's obvious the pastor is cuckoo
But one must keep in mind criminals exist in every community. Unfortunately some Muslim criminals usually find no problem in invoking Islam when it is convenient.
