Spock,
I’ve read the 3 articles, and have yet to see any information pertaining to how PMLQ’s economic policies created the current downturn (apart from the tax issue [refer to FY06’s Fiscal Policy] which is debatable). Actually, if you’ve been keeping up the economic news, you may have noticed that this downturn came suddenly after those thugs arrived back in to Pakistan. These political events caused investors to pull out their investments, due to fear (i.e. something like what NS did to investors might happen again), and a lot of other things: economic activity slowed down.
Since you are so keen on knowing all about PMLQ’s “failed” economic policies, why don’t you make a list of these policies right here & discuss with us what exactly was it in the policy that caused it to be termed as ‘failed’ ? Why don’t you do that for us please.
Thank you! ![]()
On the political front, even I will admit that Musharraf made a number of blunders. Everybody makes mistakes at some point, and Musharraf was in a very tough position and at a very intense time. But I will still give them some credit for openly admitting to their mistakes – I certainly do not see their counterparts doing such a thing - I don’t think they’ve even recognized their own blunders.
He has tripled the economy of the country! Has any Pakistani leader in the past ever done something like that? I didn’t think so. This is just one thing Musharraf’s government has given (for more things, refer to my topic about statistics).
Eight years is not enough to change everything. For example, lets talk about the power crisis. An average-sized decent power-plant (be it coal, oil, or gas based) takes several years to finish construction & become operational. Nuclear plants take well over a decade to become operational. Had the previous governments taken any, and I mean ANY initiative in thinking about the country’s future energy demands, they would’ve initiated some power-plant projects in their terms in office (which would’ve been completed by now & operational). The fact of the matter is that ever since Bhutto came into power till the time N.Sharif was ousted, there was not a single power-related project initiated. Not a single one. Under Musharraf’s government, around 25-50 projects were initiated, most of which will probably be completed under the rule of the newer governments (and the jaahil awaam of Pakistan will not give any credit to PMLQ). Now you tell me, who is to blame for the current power crisis? ..considering the fact that even if Musharraf’s government launched such projects, they still wouldn’t be operational by the end of their term (even though they’ve already launched a whole bunch).
As for the failed policies, please enlighten me which ones failed, be specific and elaborate. And also enlighten me about which of their policies led to the current crisis.
Facts are enough for some to believe that something did wonders for the country. Its something you cannot deny, and even when you try to, to the hardest of your ability, it just.. does not.. happen. I haven’t seen one constructive fact coming from you on this issue, and I have yet to see anyone criticize PMLQ’s economic wonders backed up with credible & authentic evidence. And by evidence, I mean facts, not opinions.
