there are a lot in urdu where two words of same meaning are used without people realizing it. a few are:
shab-e-barat ki raat
ba roz-e-juma wale din
maah-e-ramzan ka maheena

Same goes with my Numerical analysis teacher. Also she used to say 'Mayyar-mant' (measurement)

There was one more…a maths teacher was not able to speak ‘R’ in words…and we used to make him talk more on 'gRaph" and all the class boys used to and he used to ask…“why aRe u laughing?”
