Multiple personality disorder

Re: Multiple personality disorder

im a gemini moon.

even i dont know the number of personalities that i have... hence the disorder :(

Re: Multiple personality disorder

** what exactly does this mean?**

Like Sarah pointed out is is also known as dissociative identity disorder. It means that two or more distinct personalities exist in the same individual. In 50% of cases, there can be more than 10 different personalities. The change from one personality to another happens suddenly - usually during stress.

The "host personality" is the one which has control of the body for the greatest period of time.

The other personalities can differ a lot in intelligence, speech, vocabulary, accent, speech , even handwriting!

is this for real??

Yes it is. Maddy brought up jinns- although that is a possibility , its another issue. And I do believe multiple personalities exist - too many studies done , we have enough valid evidence.

It usually happens in early childhood, but is rarely diagnosed before the teen years.

Causes for the most part:

Severe physical and/or sexual abuse.

Split personalities are a way of coping with the distress and trauma.

is there a wide range of signs/symptoms or some solid tests etc. for diagnosis...???

Well a psycholgist is able to diagnose the patient. And yes the disorder can be treated often by psychotherapy.

Hope this helps.

Re: Multiple personality disorder

thanx sarah n MQ…

the person in question has been troublesome from the age of two …it started with pneumonia…followed by fits…
this person was prescribed some medcine for two years without missing a single day…but unfortunately it was missed 3-4 times …patient’s mum thinks …since then patient started showing a different way of carrying her/himself

she thought these were after effects /side effects of medicine

now the person in question can clearly be viewed as different personalities …one very caring …very helpful …n the other quite out of control , n full of anger person …

someone suggested its jinns etc. …n my sis thought it could be MPD

anyway, thanks a lot for replying
:flower2:

Re: Multiple personality disorder

You’re welcome. Well what you describe could simply be a phase the child is going through . In MPD, there are two (or more) different personalities. So the person talks, behaves, acts, and even eats/dresses in a completely different manner. So InshAllah I hope its just one of those times kids go through and nothing serious.

Re: Multiple personality disorder

Well human and human mind are too complex things, even with the volumes of knowledge we have at this stage. It is almost impossible to conclude any thing about human or mind behaviour.

Our mind has very distinct thoughts about every thing. The thought we act upon is just one of these many distinct thoughts but is most powerful. For example, there is an insect on the floor, some people will kill that insect as in their thoughts they hate or don't like insects, but some other person may not kill that insect. In both cases each person will have other thoughts going on on his mind too.

If in some way, a person has developed his mind so that he hates something very much but he also love that thing very much, then he/she will be a victim of multiple personality. i.e. some times you might find that person eating an ice-cream brand for instance, while at other times he neither eats himself and tries to stop others too.

So even without Jinnat, it is very easy for a person to develop multiple personalities. To some extent, each and every person on this planet is a victim to such situation. Although in most people (having clear thoughts and ideas about every thing) it is not as obvious as it is in people who are uncertain of many things.

Re: Multiple personality disorder

i read that most of the cases happen in the u.s. so many psychologists believe it doesnt really exist.
