my mother helped me physically , emotionally and financially when my baby was in hospital & afterwards too. My MIL made loads of batain and criticism against her own new born grandchild because for her she was not her grandchild but a baby of her not so favourite daughter in law. No MIL can NEVER EVER be a MOTHER. Atleast this is not what my experience is !

i know sweetie but we do have such cases

I got my first baby C-section and she knew i can't bend and sit on floor, so she insisted one day that i go down the bed and get her that fckn suitcase of hers! i was so angry, but as she said "mar nahi jaati tu, bay fiker ho ja. Bari dheet hadi hai tu"

WTF they don't care!!!!!

Mother in laws of boys and mother in laws of girls are two different types.

Sorry! Being a married girl I won't be able to describe any good characteristics of a Mother in law. All I can see their politics and hypocrisy.

when i got married, my mil didn't allow me to go to kitchen unless the jahez thing was clear...

i wondered why she do not allow me then one day i heard my hubby n his mum whisper on this issue...

i held his hand and took him in front of my MIL and there i asked them both "what is the issue" then she looked at me in a manner like i was their servant and it was only 5th day after our wedding and then i asked my hubby and he said,

maa apko meinay saaf saaf bola hai mujhay is lerki say kuch nahi chahiye aur please ap log bhi ye sub herkataen chor daen.....

that day n its today, us din kay baad ye admi aj tak meri side lay ker upni maa kay samnay nahi bola, bus jub bhi bolta hai to mujhay degrade kernay kay liye

Exactly. A boy's mother knows she can get away with things the girl's mother would never be able to.. the boy's side normally have the 'power' in the relationship and so their mums tend to act very differently..

i've noticed that my nani ma is amazing with her bahus...treats them like daughters....treats their kids soo well that even sometimes i get jealous lol
so there are some really good MIL's out there

I agree with the power thing. Also I think mostly mothers are very much possessive about their sons and it's difficult for them to share their possession like this, all of them know that no matter what they do Allah has created a very strong bond between husband and wife. No one can be closest than a life partner but they can't accept this reality.

I believe that the MILs who show their actual reaction right on the face are better than those who try to be nice but they do play politics behind your back and can't put themselves aside in those matters that are supposed to be between husband and his wife only. Don't you think that such hypocrisy is much more bitter than anything else? :(
