Most Powerful Families In History

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

Capetian Family

The Capetian dynasty is the largest European royal house. It includes any of the direct descendants of Hugh Capet of France. King Juan Carlos of Spain and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg are members of this family, both through the Bourbon branch of the dynasty. Over the course of the preceding centuries, Capetians spread throughout Europe, ruling every form of provincial unit from kingdoms to manors. Besides being the most numerous royal family in Europe, it also is one of the most incestuous, especially in the Spanish Monarchy. Many years have passed since the Capetian monarchs ruled a large part of Europe, however they still remain as kings, as well as other titles. Currently two Capetian monarchs still rule in Spain and Luxembourg. In addition, seven pretenders represent exiled dynastic monarchies in Brazil, France, Spain, Portugal, Parma and Two Sicilies. The current legitimate senior family member is Louis Alfonso (pictured above), the Duke of Anjou, who also holds the Legitimist claim to the French throne. Overall, dozens of branches of the Capetian dynasty still exist throughout Europe.

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

**Barmaki **(English: Barmakids). An influential and powerful Persian family of viziers during the time of Abbasids.

Barmakids were instrumental in increasing Persian influence in Arab caliphate of Abbasids.

Barmakids - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Barmakids were an influential Persian family from Balkh in Bactria which seems to have been of Buddhist origin[SUP][2]](Barmakids - Wikipedia)[/SUP] and came to great political power under the Abbasidcaliphs

The Barmakids were remarkable for their majesty, splendor and hospitality. They are mentioned in some stories of the *Arabian Nights.

*The Barmakids were highly educated, respected and influential throughout Arabia, Persia, Central Asia and the Levant. In Baghdad, the Barmakid court became a centre of patronage for the Ulema, poets, scholars alike.

In many stories of Arabian Nights, a character Jafar often appears. There actually was a real Jafar during Abbasids times, and he was a Barmakid.

Ja’far ibn Yahya - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ja’far bin Yahya Barmaki, Jafar al-Barmaki (Persian: جعفر بن یحیی برمکی‎, Arabic: جعفر بن يحيى‎, ja`far bin yaḥyā) (767–803) was the son of a Bactrianvizier (Yahya ibn Khalid) of the ArabAbbasidcaliphHarun al-Rashid and from whom he inherited that position. He was a member of the influential Barmakids family.

He was beheaded in 803 for allegedly having an affair with Harun al-Rashid’s sister Abbasa, although historical sources remain unclear about the real cause of Jafar’s death and the fall of the Barmakids.

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

Similarly, the Bhutto family.

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

Acha :hmmm:

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

Bhutto family is not powerful IMO, how a family is powerful when they cant save their own family members.

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

no no, its the other way around. The dead family members provide the necessary longevity to their power. thats why, someone must die every decade or so, to continue the dynasty.

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

Are u serious?

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

Yes. Just ask yourself, would the Bhuttos have anything if they didn't have the ''sacrifice, shaheed'' in their slogans??

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

I don’t know :bummer:
Im scare, people who killed her and her brothers, will hurt her kids too.

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

Bhutto Family !

Jiye Bhutto

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

That is also just made up......No one was shaheed they killed each other so they are not considered as shaheed

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

But how they were powerful? They couldn't protect their own family.

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

Whether we like it or not, Bhutto family IS and HAS BEEN a very influential family in the country.

I am proud of the contribution I made to this thread in post no. 43. But unfortunately it was overshadowed by a political controversy over Bhuttos. I wanted to see a discussion on Barmakis, instead there is discussion on Bhuttos. sigh.
Happy posting.

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

I also read about Jafar Barmaki in Alif Leela (Arabian Nights) stories. It seems Barmaki’s were to Abbasid as Hajjaj was to Ummayads.

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

How strange that such powerful people in their times are forgotten so quickly. At one time Barmakis were effectively running the caliphate. But now no one even knows their names.

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

very true:

Na gaur-e-sikandar na hai qabr e Dara;
miTe naamiyoN ke nishaaN kaise kaise

A little search on google indicate that barmakis were from Buddhist Balakh (Afghanistan) origin

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

I read your post # 43 brother :naraz: and I’m not against Bhutto family, I like BB, she was very brave,
But it makes me sad how she and her brother were killed and no one did anything for them :frowning:

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

btw who are/were Barmakis?

Re: Most Powerful Families In History

people from Balakh (Afghanistan) who got important places in the courts of earlier Abbasi caliphs. They were good builders too. Many places including mosques in Iraq contains the name Barmaki
