Most Elegant Pakistan Batsman

Re: Most Elegant Pakistan Batsman

Zaheer Abbas - no doubt

and Wasim Raja - He had the West indies number, and that too in the days when the windies were at the peak of their dynasty with a never ending supply of fast bowlers - and Wasim used to toy with them :D

Re: Most Elegant Pakistan Batsman

Never saw Zaheer Abbas. But Saeed Anwar for me was just mesmerizing. He made it look so damn easy and i wasted a lot of time playing Cricket, still do trying to have the pleasure of stroking the ball with that or similar timing…

as long as nobody really knows me I’ll be fine :mocking:

Re: Most Elegant Pakistan Batsman

Wasim Raja was a good player of fast bowling. Perhaps being left-handed helped him as all the deadly Windies pacers were right arm fast. However both Wasim Raja and Majid Khan did n't do justice to their talent imo. Both were extremely gifted and should have retired from tests with an average in the mid to high 40s (atleast).

Re: Most Elegant Pakistan Batsman

Muhammad Yousuf.

One of those batsman who weren't naturally seen as great nor predicted to become one when they first appeared on the crease, but the staggering, absolutely scintillating transformation he underwent in the second half of his career really turned him into a great. Suddenly this non superstar cricketer, out of nowhere breaks Viv Richards record, how did that happen? His late blooming as a batsman is exactly what makes him so great and unique, Shane Warne would agree with this.

When you think of Muhammad Yousuf, you think of lazy elegance, an inning builder and a period where people of Pakistan genuinely enjoyed Test cricket and took pride in it, despite having all the Afridi's and Razaaq's in the team.

I really believe and agree that Shahid Afridi has this gorgeous silky hair, he looks really good selling shampoos, but in all honesty, if there's one story that deserves to be told and that will guarantee inspire a generation - is the story of Muhammad Yousuf!

Re: Most Elegant Pakistan Batsman

Usually wristy batsmen are considered more elegant due to their placement and short selection.
I think Inzi was one of the most elegant pakistani batsmen as well though at times his foot-work used to vanish but still a classical player.

Re: Most Elegant Pakistan Batsman

After Zaheer, Miandad was my favourite Pak batsman. He played with soft hands and had the uncanny ability to guide the ball into the gaps on both sides of the wicket. He could milk singles and doubles all day long. His square cuts and cover drives were a treat to watch. Miandad was particularly strong on the on side; he pulled well and it often went for a 4 or 6

But to me style is more about poise and grace at the wicket and among Pak batsmen, Zaheer best fits that description. He was esp. strong through the off side. A high back lift combined with powerful wrists allowed him to play off front foot or back with equal ease. It always looked effortless and when Zaheer hit the ball it always stayed hit. His strength was fluency and timing. He was the most stylish batsman that I have seen. He had a lot of time to play his shots and would play them very late. His cover drives and square cuts were absolute poetry.

Imran Khan noted in his book allround view that when Zaheer and Miandad were batting at the crease together and both were in form, Zaheer easily outscored Miandad because of his superior timing.
