I, my beloved ones the people of Egypt, who have trusted me and put on my shoulder the responsibility, this heavy responsibility, say to all of you, **I, thanks to God, have been put in authority over you and I am not the best of you. I have been put in authority over you and I am not the best of you (repetition). **

I will do my best to fulfil the commitments and obligations I have undertaken before all of you. Egypt is for all Egyptians, all of us are equals in terms of rights. All of us also have duties towards this homeland.

As for myself, I don’t have rights. I only have duties. I have no rights. Rather, I only have duties.

So, help me, my people. Help me as long as I do the right thing. Help me as long as I obey Allah and you. If I did not do that and did not commit to what I have promised you before, then obedience to me is not incumbent upon you. Obedience to me is not incumbent on you .

I invite you, the great Egyptian people, my people in this historic moment to strengthen our national unity, to cement bonds amongst us, to strengthen our comprehensive national unity. And hold fast, all of you together, to the cable of Allah, and do not separate

^ If he goes to Pakistan the military will have traps set for him, just like they have in Cairo. Besides, the guy is hardly a revolutionary and has no plans to export the Egyptian experience.

So far Tunisia and Turkey run by Islamists have proven to be far better at Governance than the Western back dictators.

To call Tayyep Erdogan Islamist is laughable. He is the kind of "Islamist" who will be beheaded instantly by the "real" Islamists like Taliban and Jamat e Islami.

What do you mean a “Muslim” wins the election? Ahmed Shafiq is a Muslim too.

Valid point. It’s not a simple case of Islamophobia, otherwise the US wouldn’t be in bed with the Saudis. They will generally tolerate human rights abuses and/or religious extremism as long as their geopolitical interests are being served. If they’re wary of this guy (I haven’t come across any public statements, in fact the NYT reported ‘relief’ over the aversion of bloodshed that would’ve followed Shafiq being announced), it’s because they don’t know if he’ll uphold the Camp David accords like Mubarak did/Shafiq would’ve. Safeguarding access to the Suez Canal and overfly permission was at stake. But with the military in defacto power that’s not a cause for concern.

I think many Muslims (myself included) who like to point out the cosy American-Israeli relationship gloss over the fact that Egypt is the second largest recipient of aid after Israel, most of it earmarked for the military. When the military junta is as omnipotent as it is in Egypt and Pakistan you use it to your advantage.

When its summer in canada its pleasant and when its summer in India its horrible.............:D

In same manner there is little difference in islamist of afghanistan and turkey.....look at both the societies
