I just read a book of short stories called Yogi Hotel written by an American woman who lives in Delhi. One of the stories is about how US embassy in Delhi hassles Indians about getting a visitor's visa to US. It seems unless you can show a large real estate ownership in the subcontinent, US embassy automatically assumes that you are a crook and won't return from US.
