Monotonous and boring posts

Has anyone else noticed the excess of useless and endless posts, very often by the same person over and over? At times i open the forum to find 10 consecutive idiotic mindless posts by baba saeen peer whatever, and on another forum, i see the same thing repeated by sufimaster. I think most of the readers prefer quality over quantity, and i see this as an attempt by these people to just up the number of their posts, nothing else. Some of the better writers on these forums have been here a long time, yet they only have a couple of hundred posts, compared to others, who have joined a month ago, and are ready to hit 3000 posts.

I think the admin should devise a way of screening posts, and weed out all useless, duplicate and monotonous posts. It only makes it harder to find a good post buried amongst all this crap.

I don't agree. What you find useless other people might find valuable. It's all a matter of opinion. Who decides what is useless and what is informative? It isn't workable and would be a headache for the admin. Just ignore what you don't like.

Akif,

I agree with you.

Regards.

Akif

maybe a ranking thing? people who see the thread rate it from 1-5 based on it being worth reading or not and each person could only rank it once?

Hmmmm azkar whatcha think?

bhai.. site is as good as the people posting. if people do not find a post good, they may not respond..
dont be surprised if jawaan aka haroon gets highest ranking in this ranking game.

Fraudia.

Good idea regarding the votes.

Heres one way of doing it. I know there already is a way of removing a post to the archives if there is no response to it for 5 days. Why not devise another way of removal directly linked to this voting system? If a post gets good votes, say more than half the people voted 3 or higher for a post on a scale of 1 to 5, then it stays. And if not, adios.

wait a min here. As a thread progresses over a period of few days, the tone & taste may change along with. An apparently boring & dead thread in the beginning may start taking a fine shape a couple of days later, hence if I vote it thumbs down first day, I come back later, vote it two thumbs up and we are back to square one again. So do u really think voting can be a standard guage here??

mmmm I do know what you mean about annoying posts… but the best thing to do is to ignore them ???

what is more annoying is when 2 people start to have a conversation in someone elses interesting and informative post…
that pisses me off no end..

Well i do agree wid both of u guys(Akif & KK).
i think what we shud do is to limit the # of threads a person can start during a certain time period. Lets say 2, 3 or 4 a day????

lets say, they begin to read first for a certain period, then they can be allowed to post.
This way newcomers can see what ex. is goin on here.

Frankly I don’t see any problem here.

We have people with different age, from different parts of
the world with different background, and most important
with different amount of time. They have different interests,
understanding and values. Things which are interesting and
funny for me can be boring and senseless for others.

Censure & limitation is not a good solution.

If you don’t like an author or a topic, simply just ignore it.

I agree with imran, This is an open site anyone can post a message here. If you don’t like a post don’t read it

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smile.gif

limiting posts over a period of time is not a good idea it will stop ppl like me

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smile.gif

to post replies. I usually go through each new post or reply in one session. and I don’t reply as regularly as I’m doing these days.
Secondly ppl have the right to express themselves if they sound boring that is their problem not yours and don’t try to “rule” this site this site is not only for ppl like ur thinking it is popular for its diversity. Some ppl want to talk philosphical stuff while some are bored by this. some ppl take everything seriously and some the other way round.
You cannot blame someone to be boring!

Do you…yahooooooo!!! ?

As expected.. we came back to the logic that what is monotonous for one can be fun for another and if someone does not like a post, dont respond and it will fade away anyways....hehe my posts usually end up with that fate.

Yahoo i was not talking about limiting the # of posts(replies)...i was talking about limiting the # of new threads a person can start during a certain time....

Naiklarki,

Good thing you pointed out the difference. I think that's a good idea.

my apologies, my mistake I think i need some sleep now

Do you…yahooooooo!!! ?

Well, everybody is free to post whatever he/she wants as long as admin/moderator is ok with the content. It's people's freedom, no matter to what degree it does not conform to what others may feel should be the manner of posting.

I know how much it can get irritating but that still doesn't mean that you have the right to control or shape the manners in which others may want to interact on the net. Hey, if somebody still wants to ask the question of who came first, egg or hen then that's what he/she is interested in talking about. If that doesn't interest you, don't read it. (even though I'm with you on the opinion that that's as idiotic as it gets).

Imran, Yahoo, Roman,
my suggestion was only to avoid the ever repeated Q's like :
where r from?
how old r u?
r u pakistani?
what do u do for a livin?
etc etc
and we all can dream of another fifty posts like these.

UfffffooooH

Guys galz,

pathwari bro, I bet ya it's not only fifty posts... it's a never ending phenomenon. Questions like these will be asked over and over again whenever there would be fresh chain of newcomers.

But at the same time, these are common questions (no, not the egg and hen one) that newcomers like to ask when they meet new people. But if they are to be restricted then a lot of them won't want to come back. Who likes to wait around for a clearance period before they can join? People don't have time and patience for that.
