I keep hearing about innovations to the traditional desi marriage. To be honest I find some of them a bit strange..Like for example hijabi desi girls from the girls side dancing on the walima ( i find that odd because the principle of the walima is it is an announcement from the guys side that he has gotten married)

I’ve also seen a few cases where the guy has tried to refuse a dowry on religious grounds but the girls family has made a particular issue of wanting a dowry to be given. Conversely from the guys side I’ve seen a few cases where the guy has wanted to give a fair amount in the haq mehr but forgets that as part of the civil marriage his wife accoding to western law can claim far more..

I’d be interested in comments from people about these new trends as much for my information.

You’re talking about the wedding function and not the marriage itself.
