In the case of aunties, I think much of the OTT miserable behaviour stems from pent up frustration. In previous generations, women were expected to put up with alot more, such as not being allowed to work or study, not being able to visit their families freely, and being expected to make all of the sacrifices in the marriage and remain silent about it. After doing that for 30+ years, it’s rather likely that they would end up bitter. I’m not saying that this justifies the annoying behaviour described by @amber19 but I don’t think that it is entirely their fault either.

Agree.. and I think seeing young women doing what they themselves couldn’t do can be pretty hard to stomach as well..
