Re: Miscellaneous Poetry

Sit with me
Wordlessly
And send my heart racing
When time to part
Still my heart
With the promise of tomorrow

^That was Rumi’s take on pehlus and stuff. Not my own. Promise.

Re: Miscellaneous Poetry

I am coming back to the forum after along gap. Here is a poem I wrote recently:

HERE COMES THE RAIN

The sun shone at its peak
Radiating light and heat
About midday or so,
The clouds reined in
Obscuring the sky
Pouring from all sides
Stretching far and wide
Hung like an umbrella
In satisfying colors
Of black, gray and white
Like hair on a man’s head
In three stages of life
A gentle wind blew
Sending birds hither, thither
And animals helter-skelter
Hankering for a shelter
The soil at my feet
Suddenly smelled so sweet
I could barely hold myself
From lying down and let me,
Be welcomed by its greet
As the winds steeped
With every swing
Each blade of grass
Started to harp
A melody so deep, so neat
Even a stone would melt
At a song
So sweetly sweet
In a classic rhythm
While smiling at me
The twigs began to swing
The trunks gently sway
Flabbergasted,
I smiled back
And raising my arm,
Waved their way
Perhaps bewildered,
They shied away
And made my day
As the winds seeped through
Their cracks and cavities
Cedars, willows and pines
Whistled out shrieks
And let out screams
That fell like symphony
On my starved ears
Their sheer music
And absolute harmony
Captivated my soul
And stilled my heart
Making me, whole
When the farm dog barked
And the barn door slammed
The maid rushed out
Gathering the clothes,
Emptying the rope
When the cattle started to moo
And the goats then, bleat
The whole cottage swayed
As the distant donkey brayed
I saw leaves falling
And hugging the earth
And trees bending down
As if to kiss the ground
The rhythmic motions
The cyclic sounds
Of natures’ orchestra
Are like a carol
That permeates your soul
And drowns all sound
You feel mesmerized
And totally spellbound
By the sheer beauty
Of the audience you share
With mighty mother nature
As its beauty abounds
God Himself peeps down
In ardent admiration
Of a love newly found
Comes a flash of lightning
Enough to shame the sun
Followed by a thunderous roar
According a warm welcome
To the longed downpour
As the first drop
Lands a gentle kiss
On my right cheek
I hear my heart say
You didn’t wait in vain
For here comes the rain

You truly composed that yourself? It’s beautiful the comparisons you used for the imagery, MashAllah. The umbrella…the three colors compared to the stages of life. I like the momentum in the last 11 lines as they build up to the much awaited moment; it was clever to use the title in the very end.

Re: Miscellaneous Poetry

redvelvet,

Thanks. Yes, it is indeed my own work. Thanks once again for the kind words.

Re: Miscellaneous Poetry

A very dear friend, already a heart patient, recently survived another massive heart attack. To give him hope and also prepare him for the truth, I wrote the following lines:

MY TIME IS NOT UP YET

My weakened heart
When It skips a beat
I sometimes worry,
Has my time come?
In a little while,
An inner voice speaks
No, my dear, not yet
Your time is not up yet
Oil, cholesterol and smoking
They’ve all tried their best
With arteries clogged,
And multiple stents
After every bypass,
I bypass death
Every now and then,
I hear people whisper
I think this time,
He may not survive
But here I am,
Kicking and alive
For my time is not up yet
When I climb the stairs
Holding on to the rails
Difficult breathing
And rising pulse rate
Panting like a dog
As if I‘ve just run a race
I start thinking again
Am I at the end?
My heart speaks for itself
No, not yet
My time is not up yet
When I am on a walk
Trudging along
Like an old hog
This piercing pain
In my chest
Hits me like a knife
As I fold, fumble and stumble
Not knowing whether
I’ll ever be able to stand
On my two feet again
I hear it once more
Yes, you’ll be back again
As your time is not up yet
When I lay still
After taking a pill
Counting my pulse
Without much skill
In my thoughts deep
As I go to sleep
I sometimes worry
Will I ever wake up?
Is this my final sleep?
The realization hits hard
Of course, my dear, you would
For your time is not up yet
I sometimes ask
If health is wealth
Then what is life?
I am alive and kicking
By the Grace of Almighty
Thank Allah for what we still have
Would somebody please tell my wife?
That my time is not up yet
I sometimes wonder
When I go wander
They might find me
In the woods, yonder
Lying in a heap
Crying like sheep
Writhing in pain
About to doze off
Into my final sleep
In my heart, I know
This end is inevitable
Tomorrow could be it
Prepare to live alone, my love
For I may soon be gone
I just can’t stay any longer
When my time is up
If I don’t wake up tomorrow
It’ll be a day of sorrow
I’d feel good,
If only you would
Be gentle, cool and thorough
When you hear the final beep
And the graph rises steep
Followed by a straight line
I’ll be fast asleep
When they put me in a sack
After the final attack
You must understand
There is no coming back
Let me go in peace
Don’t cry over me
As it won’t bring me back
You must stay here
Even when I’m not there
Don’t fret after me
Looking everywhere
You’ll join me one day
When your time, too, is up
I shall wait for you
Beyond earthly horizons
As you ascend the skies
Ever Graceful, clad in white
In the company of angels
Like a fairy, in paradise
You shall find me standing
Like always, wearing a smile
Waiting for you, my lovely bride
At the doorstep to Heavens
With arms outstretched wide
Ready to embrace
The love of my life
With an thumping heart
And a beaming smile
Holding your hand
Shall I escort you to
Our newest reside
Till then, stay blessed, stay alive
My beloved, my life!
