Misbah test captain for series vs SA

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

Misbah is not a technically sound batsman. His spot in the team is like waste of a body !

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

You could only expect this from Pathetic Cricket Board. But at least he'll be better than Yousuf, hopefully.

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

Ijaz Butt is a moron, denying Younis because of his own inflated ego. The guys is a maniac and an insult to cricket and Pakistan.

Misbah recalled because Younis unavailable - Mohsin

Pakistan [recalled](http://www.cricinfo.com/pakistan-v-south-africa-2010/content/story/480401.html) [Misbah-ul-Haq](http://www.cricinfo.com/pakistan-v-south-africa-2010/content/player/41378.html) to the Test side and then [installed him as captain](http://www.cricinfo.com/pakistan-v-south-africa-2010/content/current/story/480522.html) primarily because Younis Khan was not cleared for selection by the PCB, the chief selector Mohsin Khan has said.

“We needed a senior player to strengthen our batting line-up,” Mohsin told the News. “Our first choice was Younis Khan but we didn’t get any clearance [from the PCB], after which we discussed the option of recalling Misbah and decided to go for it.”
Another factor that went in Misbah’s favour was his non-controversial record and fitness, despite being 36. “In a team where many of the players have had serious disciplinary problems, Misbah is one guy who has a neat and clean background,” Mohsin said. "He is a thorough professional and one of the fittest players in our country, which is another big plus point.
“I know that Misbah has just managed to score runs on and off in his international career but he is the kind of player who can click anytime. He has done well in the Pentangular Cup and the National One-Day Cup which is a good sign.”
Pakistan had dropped both Misbah and Younis following the winless tour of Australia in 2009-10. While Misbah was cast aside because of poor form, Younis was banned along with several other Pakistan players on disciplinary grounds. Younis appealed against his punishment, like the others did, and was cleared as well, but the PCB have not picked him in the squad since.
Misbah will lead Pakistan in the two-Test series against South Africa in Abu Dhabi in November. He becomes the fourth man, after Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt, to captain Pakistan in Tests in 2010 alone.

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

Younis was not available what a joke

He should have said ke butt nhe mana werna younis said ke he is available

stupid moron selector :aj:

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

Test squad: Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar, Asad Shafiq, Mohammad Yousuf, Misbah ul Haq (capt), Umar Akmal. Azhar Ali, Saeed Ajmal, Danish Kaneria, Abdur Rehman, Zulqarnain Haider, Umar Gul, Tanvir Ahmed, Mohammad Sami, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Tanvir (subject to fitness).

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

Kamran Out ?

Zulqarnain Back in?

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

If Kamran was available technically he would have been the captain. Molah ki shaan.

Younis doesn't have people management skills. Even if he was there, he wouldn't have lasted as captain for too long.

Misbah is your best choice, if not the best batsman in the team (excl. Yousuf)

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

how much he bought the captaincy from?

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

....ok fine, maan liya, misbah is crap...just one question though...you are the chief selector....whom should we make skipper for tests? ....keep in mind disciplinary problems and fixing scandal.....we need a clean player...and, younis is not allowed to be selected by PCB chairman.....now give me your choice....

misbah selection is a reflection of sad state of our cricket.....

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

---------------cvabn------------
Kamran has been the at the helm of this sinking ship and equally responsible. What I see of Zulqarnain so far is a compact and ambitious Cricketer. Good for the cricket future in Pakistan

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

I'm pretty sure Kamran was left out because of his appendix surgery...not related to performance, I might be wrong.

Akram shocked by Misbah appointment

   ESPNcricinfo staff

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has expressed shock at the appointment of Misbah-ul-Haq as Test captain for the upcoming series against South Africa.
“I was surprised when I heard that Misbah has been named the Pakistan captain,” Akram told Mobile ESPN. “He has been out of the team since the beginning of the year and to bring him back as a captain was a bit shocking.”
Misbah was a regular member of the Pakistan middle-order in all formats following his comeback to the side in 2007. He was dropped after a lean trot during the Test series in Australia that ended in January this year. Despite a surprise appearance for the 2010 World Twenty20 in the West Indies in May, few expected him to make another Test appearance.
Pakistan’s current leadership crisis, following Shahid Afridi’s latest retirement from Tests and Salman Butt’s suspension for alleged involvement in spot-fixing, forced the board to recall Misbah and appoint him as their fourth Test captain in 2010 alone.
“They did not have too many choices,” Akram reasoned. "Kamran Akmal is there but he is inexperienced. They have also tried Shoaib Malik. Mohammad Yousuf is making a comeback after a long time and he should just concentrate on his batting at the moment.
“If they have named him the captain for one series, it’s okay. He is already 36 and the PCB needs to find a long-term solution to this problem. I do not know the vision of the selectors.”
Pakistan have endured a torrid period following the controversial tour of England and Akram noted Misbah would have a key role as a leader in the South Africa series, both on and off the field. "Misbah will be under pressure. He will have to improve the image of Pakistan cricket. For Misbah handling the media and getting runs himself could be demanding.
“The wickets in Dubai might suit Misbah’s style of batting, but you cannot take the South Africans lightly. They are a very tough opposition under any conditions. Misbah needs to work hard and make sure he earns the faith of the team. If he gets runs, everything else will take care of itself.”

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

Neither the team selection nor the choice of captain (Misbah) for SA series makes much sense but that is PCB and Ijaz Butt for you.

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

So Fawad Alam can't find spot in the team for the format he is most suite for but is a member of T20 squad.

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

I'm totally convinced that Pakistan has flipped turtled and all their efforts to spring back on its feet are just in vain.
Almost sounds like a systematic assassination for whatever this nation was proud off once.

Come Onnnn ! don't you all still get it ????

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

^^ yeah we got it...but those incharge are ruthless tyrants who can only be removed by a pirate tougher and more ruthless than them...so brace yourself....till Mr. das feesad rules pakistan...such sham chairmanships will continue to be awarded...

Misbah has the best cricket brain in Pakistan - Lawson
Osman Samiuddin
October 11, 2010

Misbah-ul-Haq knows how to get the best out of players and is a winner according to Geoff Lawson © Cricinfo Ltd

Former Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson believes Misbah-ul-Haq has the “best cricket brain” in Pakistan and is well-placed to handle the Test captaincy, surprisingly handed to the 36-year-old last week.

Misbah was thought to be out of national reckoning when he wasn’t picked for the Asia Cup or the tour to England earlier this year. But a disastrous sequence of captaincy appointments left the board, in their own words, with little choice.

Lawson is well-placed having been coach during Misbah’s return to international cricket three years ago during the 2007 World T20, a tournament which he nearly won for Pakistan. That sparked the most productive phase of his career and it was in Lawson’s time, between 2007 and 2008, that he established himself in the middle order; in five Tests under Lawson, he averaged 78 with two hundreds and a fifty; he averaged 41 in 28 ODIs, and over 67 in the ten Twenty20s Pakistan played with Lawson in charge.

Misbah was vice-captain to Shoaib Malik during that time and took over on one occasion, leading Pakistan to an ODI win over India in the 2008 Asia Cup in Karachi. “He definitely has the best cricket brain and intellect in Pakistan cricket,” Lawson told ESPNcricinfo. “He has a statesman-like demeanour which so many Pakistan captains have lacked and he handles adversity analytically not emotionally. He knows how to get the best out of players and he is a winner, note his outstanding domestic record as a leader.”

Several former players, including Wasim Akram have expressed their surprise at the appointment. Mostly it stems from Misbah’s age - even though he is, for now, captain for only two Tests against South Africa - but also from his batting form.

His comeback ended initially in September 2009, when he was dropped for poor form. He returned, however, during the subsequent tour of New Zealand and Australia at the insistence of Yousuf, who was captain at the time.

More disappointing returns on that tour formed part of a broader decline since Lawson’s departure. He averages 24 in nine Tests since Lawson left in October 2008, and 21 in 19 T20Is. An average of nearly 40 in 16 ODIs since then is not enough to assuage the concerns of some that he doesn’t command an automatic place in the XI.

“He works very hard on his fitness and his cricket skills so physically he will be in good shape,” Lawson said. “The question is simply one of age and reactions. Has he got the sharpness to be productive at international level at 36? The captain leading or failing by example can have a significant effect on any team but especially Pakistan. He deserves this but Ideally he should have been captain six years ago.”

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

I think when Salman Butt was made captain Lawson said that Shoaib Malik should've been the automatic choice, I don't know what game this Geoff Lawson is playing.

Re: Misbah test captain for series vs SA

^^ oh I missed that one....Lawson was coach with Malik so it would make sense...

I believe most likely younis and Lawson did not get along and Misbah and lawson did....hence ....Lawson is praising Misbah...
specially sicne he now knows very well how much Paki nation respects Gora's words and automatically think they (Gora Coach) will be neutral....
Aussies are aussies....hara*ee pan main sab say agay...
we know it well...
