I am sorry if I disappoint you, but the generations were counting the day and night, months and years via the movement of Moon much earlier to the revelations of Quran. And this is for your information that Moon does not change the phases (decrease or increase)…it is only a reflection of sun rays.

‘Furthermore, our ability to see the Moon is made possible by the fact that it is illuminated by the Sun.’…these are your words and nowhere written in Quran.

A question….What does Quran say about eclipses of Sun and Moon?

The ayah says wa qamaram Muneera —> Moon the REFLECTOR

change of phases represents the portion of it that reflects the light of Sun.

Truley, Arabic is required to read the Quran otherwise, one will be totally ‘Anjaan’ of what Quran is saying.
