Minister says Muslims should pray in German

The Nazi analogy does not quite work when discussing the relationship with Muslims - the Nazi party was in fact rather friendly towards Islam and financed the construction of the first Islamic centre in Berlin back in 1938, as well as fielding the largest Muslim division in World War 2, right down to establishing madrassahs for Muslims in Nazi service to study Islam in. The Nazi party was a very close ally of several Muslim leaders including the Grand Mufti of Al-Aqsa, the Shah of Persia, and opposition politicians in Iraq.

Times have changed now. It’s not 1938 anymore. Judeo-Christian extremist have now a common enemy that is Islam.

Maybe this question should be addressed to people in the religion forum, but why does Salaat need to be in Arabic? What is so special about this language to Allah, the creator of all? I just don't get it. It goes against all the "equality" among all people and races concept that is preached in Islam.

From a worldly perspective, there is nothing special about Arabic...linguistically, it has a lot of problems compared to other languages.

Says who? people who can’t even understand Arabic? one loses his credibility when he makes comments about a language that he can’t even understand. Yes if a linguist tells me the same thing than I might consider listening what he has to say about Arabic. It is Language of Quran. This reason yet alone is enough to pray Salaat in Arabic. But I guess no reason will be enough to convince modern liberal phony Muslims.

Well, we’ll soon see what happens when these guys go beheading and throat slitting anyone who disgarees and the community still patronizes the hatemongers.

We’ll definitely see things soon.

They are the most tolerant in the worl and you're saying this because this thread is about them wanting prayers in German.Okkk.
Tolerance is relative. If you go to Saudi Arabia and open the Bible in a pulbic place and read it aloud, you get whipped. Do more and get beheaded. That goes for most religiin based countries that are non-democratic. Compare that and you see Germany is heaven.
And may I remind you that people SHOULD find out what the whole community is like, rather then looking ONLY at the "extremists".
Oh yeah. How are people going to find that out if the entire community does nothing to ostracize the extremists other than issue blank, bogus statements of condemnation?
Most lectures,Khutbahs, speeches etc are held in English and other official languages of the countries. We're all aware of that right? As for the prayer itself being in German why? And would you like to point out whats so tolerant of that?
The local community should sit and discuss this with the authorities. Obviously some prayers have to be in non-German, be it Turkish or Arabic, but what most authorities are concerned about is the danger that mullahs spread hate of other faiths through their sermons.

Didn't that guy who killed the Dutch filmmaker get inflamed by fiery speeches by a local Wahhabi mullah?

When extremists use places of worship to preach hate and the rest of the "moderates" do nothing to stop them, expect this kind of backlash. That's a fact of life.
And you say it so easily- if people dont like it- they can leave. What makes you think that the Germans have done favours for these people?People go to these places and work all their lives -and you think they should pack ther bags and leave. While at it write up a slip of all their life's hardships and try paying them for everything, then we'll see.
Just because you work hard, doesn't mean jack. Immigrants have a a bigger burden to bear. In the US, you could lose your Green Card if you are convicted of some crimes, unlike a citizen who can stay forver. If you go to a foreign land and you allow your community assets to become centers of hate and terrorism, expect to get booted out one way or another.

That is why I said that the so called silent majority should make its voice heard or be branded as one of the bad guys.

^ :hehe:

Don't hold your breath. Plus don't assume everyone is as spineless and as willing to sell their values/beliefs as you are.

she said, "we can no longer accept that prayers in mosques should be said in languages that cannot be understood outside the Muslim community."
Well, the basic flaw in her argument is that most of the muslims in Germany also have no clue on what they are saying during the salah, as well, as there are very few who can understand arabic. So if salah is trying to spread terror messages across the masses, too bad... no one is picking 'em up.

However, if the issue is the sermon before the salah... it should be in a language that people can understand. Its pretty cut and dried.

stand up

Some elements of our glorious past may give us cause to rejoice. However we should remember that we are under constant attack from the culture (hadhara) of the West. We should be in a position, primarily, to be equipped with the battle armoury of the correct Islamic culture. We should be in a position, also, to identify that which contradicts our culture. We should be in a position enabling us to deconstruct and refute the fundamentals of Western culture. In this day and age it is a duty, o_n us as individuals and o_n us as an Ummah to recognise, reject, and replace Western influences in our lives. Abu Said Al-Khudri narrated that Rasool-Allah (Sallalahu alaihi wa Sallam) said:

"You shall follow the ways of those before you hand span to hand span and arm length to arm length, and even if they entered a lizard's hole you will follow them." I said: "O messenger of Allah! You mean the Jews and the Christians?" He sallallahu alaihi wa sallam replied: "Who else?"

Well, sermons are always delivered both in Turkish and German in Turkish mosques, Arabic and German in Arab mosques and in Urdu and German in Pakistani mosques. My personal experience says you can never satisfy such people like Schavan no matter how much you try to assimilate or integrate into their culture. There are many renown Arab and Turkish intellectuals who appear on German TV and criticize harshly their own people and extremists like Laden more than they criticize the policies of the German government but you still hear why muslim intellectuals are quiet. One cannot blame the whole muslim minority for the misdeed of few individuals...

There was a time when the Roman Catholic Mass was said almost exclusively in Latin regardless of where in the world you attended. Now, the traditional Latin Mass is a rarity and mass is done in the language of the country where it occurs. The changeover basically occured because most of the churchgoers wouldn't get much out of the traditional Latin Mass because they didn't understand the Latin. What's the good in reciting a bunch of Latin words that you don't understand. By offering mass in other languages, the congregational base expanded.

But...in the case of the Roman Catholics, it was the church reforming itself in response to the needs and desires of the flock. It was not the government dictating what language a religion should use in its services. This idiot minister is quoted as saying: “"we can no longer accept that prayers in mosques should be said in languages that cannot be understood ** outside the Muslim community. *" It’s people * inside the religious community ** that need to understand the language rather than people ** outside the religious community. **

There may be some merit to expanding the religious base of Islam by offering services in languages that people in other countries can understand. But that is something that ought to be decided by the religious leaders not some government minister.

Prayers have always been in Arabic and always will be. It is the duty of all Muslims to learn Arabic and pray in Arabic as an Article of Faith. The Qur'aan stipulates this for us.

Sermons on the other hand are usually in the native tongue.

The German Minister unfortunately is still using Mein Kampf as his guide!
