^erm, not really. We have plenty of practices here with all-female doctors, who specialize in obgyn. So, whether your doctor is available or not, it's guaranteed that your baby will be delivered by a female doctor from the practice. At least that's what my experience was.
^The practice I used to go to,was all females and 1 male...they rotated with 2 more practices for on-calls in the hospital where I delivered. These practices were also mainly female doctors and a 2-3 male doctors...but there was no 100% guarantee that I would be delivered only by a female.
Maybe it differs with hospitals and different practices.
I guess not a lot of us are comfortable with male doctors, esp OB/Gyn and want females...but I think it is better to be mentally prepared for the very slight chance that on D-day we might end up with a male doctor...!
GtG..All the best...hope you find a midwife/Ob you really like and Inshallah all goes well....
sgc.. I just didn't like my experience with obgyn practice...everytime I asked a question, she will cut me in the middle and say "yeah I was about to tell you that" and not to mention her attitude when she kept saying, "some people think once we make an appt, we will be able to convince them for a female obgyn- no flexibility ta all" and I swear until that time I kept saying, "I totally understand that I may have a male doc for delivery and I am ok with it" but I just didnt like her tone!! later, I found out about the midwifery care through the hospital and I decided to check them.. tomorrow I have my meet and greet meeting with them and even though I have a chance of having a male obgyn(in any case of an emergency).. if I am comfortable with the midwife that I meet tomorrow, I will go ahead with it!
Seebs.. lucky you, we don't have any female only practies here.. I swear I am hating the pind I live in now!!! they don't even have docs!
^^GtG....but didn't you say that you were seen by a midwife at the obgyn practice...??
I thought you haven't seen any doctor yet and just saw one midwife and are seeing another one tomorrow...
yep yep it was the midwife at obgyn practice.. I keep asking for the obgyn and they keep scheduling me with her as in trying to rush me in for appts.. I have an appt on Thursday and I specifically asked for the obgyn that was recommended but no luck!!! I believe it's thepractice that I am not happy with even though I really liked the nurse!!
Ok so if I have this right..it is like this...you saw the midwife at the ob practice and you did not like her.You ask for the ob at the same practice (the one who was referred to you by your PCP) and you are not able to get an appointment with her...
you will see another midwife at another practice tomorrow (where they have the male doctor for emergencies)...
If I was at your place, I would go see the doctor I get appt with and then eventually transfer my file to the other doctor. Some doctors are just very busy and if you can't get an appt with them, get someone else in their practice and just transfer the file. When I found out I was expecting I tried several female obgyn but didn't get anyone to give me an appt. I ended up going to a male doctor that someone recommended. That was a good decision I made. I chose doctor based on how good he was (although initially I wanted a female doc). His team dignosed the reason I was put in high risk.
And like SGC keeps saying no one can guarantee if you'll get a female doctor or not at the time of delievry. All my doctors were male but at the time of delievry I had at least 10 people in the room and they were all females except for one medical student who took my husband's permission to be there.
chipsy.. it's exactly what you said.. thanks for clarifying for yourself :p I will call you after work today regarding my experience with this new place that I will be going to today!
Spiral.. I have heard a lot of people say that they ended up with male doc and loved it.. in my case, if its not an emergency and I end up finding a female ob or midwife that I like and feel comfortable with, I dun have to try a male doc! simple as that! if I stick to the ob practice that I have right now, chances are i may end up with a male ob for delivery but if I switch to the midwifery center and everything stays normal (inshaAllah) I won't have to worrya bout it... I 'm hoping and praying that everything stays as normal as possible inshaAllah.. Allah knows the best :-)

i know you can go to a practice where there are all-female doctors but they might not actually be present at time of delivery in the hospital or you didn't deliver at a hospital or do you mean the hospital's ob team was all female? i don't think any of the hospitals here have only female ob's on their team.
