Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
As I said before, some of us just don't see a problem. Its all media's fault. Bad bad media. Yup, yup! Lets organize a protest on the streets of Houston to call for the Professor's resignation. That'll teach 'em.
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
I understand that. But then, when something like Duke University is happening here one can safely assume that in coutries like US and Canada and rest of the non-muslim world there'll be some bias/prejudice against even the most peaceful muslim- always . We have soooo much prejudice back home against shias and other minorities. I dont want to reveal their names, but when I was in california two of my countrymen and my thick buddies would not talk to each other because of shia-sunni divide. That they thought I was a lesser Sunni, both would talk to me.. weird! Faisal, what is "Kher Andesh"? Sounds like a Hindu word...
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
Tell me Faisal bhaijaan.. did u know the Columbine killers were Jewish?.. or the punks who worked together to burn 9 Alabama churches using military grade thermite are Jewish? The whole Baptist community was in shock and fear for weeks before these terrorists were caught and all we have is that "it was a prank" and then immediate media blackout.
AIPAC is being investigated for spying on the USA.. key Jewish administration officials are involved... I don't see any Muslim convicted for spying in the USA.. yet Pollard is there.. do u see this scandal being given due coverage? does the average American even get to know all this is going on? Is it not just a matter of a few Sunday specials to create an atmosphere of uncertainty surrounding the Jewish population or Israeli dual nationals in our government or their control over what Americans get to see and listen.
Let's stop being naive and dismissive of the very real concentrated efforts to shape the perception of Muslims.. It's one thing to acknowledge problems in our midst, totally another to accept blame for anything and everything lying down.
The students in Michigan weren't the one protesting the cartoons or doing anything against the law. How dare this dirtbag suggest they leave the country?

i know its beautifuL!
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
Did the Columbine killers go on their deadly spree in the name of Yahweh? what about the arsons in Alabama? These acts of violence weren't done in the name of religion. So is there a Jewish Media consperecy to make Muslims look bad or is the fact of reality that violent acts are being commited in the name of Islam by Muslims?
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
PA,
If you read my post carefully you will notice a clear mention about the bias of the media in the Western world. Instances of isolated individual moronic behavior by a few muslims are plastered all over to create a constant image of backward idiotic (and in many instances violent) people. In the same vein, these same media gloss over similar or worse incidents in other (protected) communities. No one is disputing any of that.
Having said that, any theory that all (or even majority of) problems being faced by the muslims around the world are the result of western media's biased coverage is incomplete and ultimately self-destructive. You can only blame others for your problems up to a point.
You are right that every society has their share of morons. Unfortunately in recent times, we have had more than our fair share of people who preach intolerence and violence. More and more people are going down that route in muslim lands due to multiple economic and social issues. There is no single magic wand that can solve these problems so looking at quick-fixes, or "give me the media and I can solve it" is not really going after the real issue.
At the same time, I think everyone supports all reasonable means to protest this email from the dimwit (some of the typos are very bad) professor. Be it pressure through the media, or Board of Trustees or newspaper letters or online petitions or street protests etc. All types of pressures should be applied. No one is saying we shouldn't do all that.
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
What violent acts in the name of Islam? Which Muslim committed violent acts in the name of Islam?
You are acting as if the Abu Ghraib, Fallujah and US army shooting pregnant mothers through their bellies are acts committed in the name of America…
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
I didn’t know the protest by those students was in name of Islam ![]()
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
There has to be other details to this case. I just can't believe that a professor in an academic environment would do something like this.
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
There is alot of anti muslim professors out there, im not surprised at this behaviour.
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
Off him.
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
He’s “apologized.” Which is a start. But I think the University should take some action, if they haven’t already.
CAIR-MI: MSU PROF APOLOGIZES FOR ‘INTEMPERATE’ E-MAIL - TOP
(LATHRUP VILLAGE, MI, 4/25/06) - The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) today said that a Michigan State University (MSU) professor has offered an apology for an Islamophobic e-mail sent to Muslim students.
In an e-mail reply to a person expressing concern over his offensive remarks, MSU engineering professor Indrek Wichman said: “I wrote my comments in haste to what I thought was a private organization and I used intemperate language. My apologies to you and other [sic] whom I have offended. I regret this very much and my comments have nothing to do with my classes or any research.”
“Let us hope this disturbing incident can serve as a learning opportunity for all concerned,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid. “Once again we see that activism, education and dialogue are the best tools to use when challenging intolerant views.”
Walid said MSU sent a letter to Wichman informing him that the opinions he expressed went against the values of the university. He urged MSU to institute religious sensitivity training for faculty members before the next school year.
The Michigan Department of Civil Rights is looking into the case.

CAIR-MI: MSU PROF SAYS E-MAIL BIASED - TOP
Gregg Krupa, Detroit News, 4/25/06
EAST LANSING – A professor at Michigan State University admitted Monday that he sent an e-mail with statements reflecting prejudice against Muslims. He said he thought his missive would remain private.
Indrek Wichman, a professor of mechanical engineering, said he intended the letter as a critique of Muslim students’ protests at the university about the publication of caricatures of the prophet Muhammad.
In the e-mail, after citing several international incidents of what he said was Muslim violence directed against others, Wichman wrote: “I counsul (sic) you dissatisfied, agressive (sic), brutal and uncivilized slave-trading Moslems to be very aware of this as you proceed with your infantile ‘protests.’ If you do not like the values of the West – see the 1st Ammendment (sic) – you are free to leave.”
“I hope for God’s sake you choose that option,” Wichman wrote. “Please return to your ancestral homelands and build them up yourselves instead of troubling Americans. Cordially, I.S. Wichman, Professor of Mechanical Engineering.”
In an interview Monday, Wichman said he believes he has done nothing that requires an apology.
“Why should it?” Wichman said. "I am a private citizen, right? What am I doing wrong in my job? What did I do here?
“For the record, I thought it was a private communication and it was written in haste. I think a very minor thing has been blown completely out of proportion. I wrote it in 60 seconds. It was not like I sat and pondered over this thing for days. It was like you talking one night to your wife or your kids.”
The letter was written Feb. 28. Wichman said he sent it to an e-mail address that he believed belonged to a particular student who is active in the Muslim Students’ Association.
But students who lead the association said the e-mail address was part of the official Web site of the group, which assured distribution of the letter to more than the students and others who are active in Muslim affairs on the campus in East Lansing and elsewhere.
The Muslim Students’ Association and the Council on American-Islamic Relations met with administrators at MSU three times over the past six weeks, said Dawud Walid, the executive director of the council in Michigan. The groups are seeking a reprimand for Wichman and the implementation of more diversity programs on campus.
“He does have academic freedom and freedom of speech,” Walid said. "But when his inflammatory speech is fostering apprehension and an unhealthy learning environment for students at the university at which he teaches, that is a problem.
“Furthermore, he is sending out this information on university property, a computer, and that is paid for by the taxpayers, by our tax dollars, during his working hours in his office.”
Wichman received a letter from MSU Provost Kim Wilcox informing him that the opinions he expressed were against the values of the university and that if he expresses similar views again, he must make clear that they are entirely his own, said Terry Denbow, the vice president for university relations.
“I can certainly see that as to the tone and the content of the e-mail why it was offensive,” Denbow said
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
Singing a different tune now that his "private" email got a little publicity. Typical.
I wonder what would have happend if an anti-semitic e-mail found its way to a Jesuit student organization.........
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
If this was at the U, he would be fired.
Re: Mich. Prof Tells Muslim Students to Leave America
it was not his intension to let muslims know wht his TRUE intensions were [it was a private matter anyways which unfortunately went public]. so stop demonizing the poor chap and let it go. if u really want action and mar-katai then go burn down CAIR. bunch of pussies they are.
