Re: Miandad opens his heart to GEO
NK, Some of the things Miandad said that I can remember
HE believes that the PCB Chairman should be someone who has played the game at the highest level himself and not someone who's just in the good books of the President of Pakistan.
blames Shahryar for his dismissal as coach. says he was sacked unjustly because under him Pakistan only lost the home series against India in 2004 which he believes was not due to cricketing but other reasons (although he did not go into that in detail) Still regards himself as the best coach there is. Miandad quotes one example where he was batting with Rameez Raja. Rameez was struggling against some left arm spinner and Miandad could see from the other end why Rameez was having great difficulty against him. Miandad asked Rameez specifically not to play the spinner on the on-side or he would be caught and bowled. Rameez duly ignored his advice and was out caught-and-bowled the very next ball on-driving the left-arm spinner!
Technology alone will not produce great players. Questions why are we not producing great players anymore despite the PCB's insistence on technology whereas we were producing great players back in the 70s and 80s. The Pakistani team is not the place to learn. It's too late by then. You should have polished most of those basic skills and technique at club and domestic levels and that's why Australia is far ahead of us and not because of technology.
