Lawson wants Javed onside
NEW Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson will invite his harshest critic, Javed Miandad, to be part of his support staff.
A day after Javed unleashed a torrent of criticism over the appointment of another foreign coach, Lawson claimed that his former Test opponent had much to offer Pakistan cricket.
"I'd like to get Javed on board to be part of the coaching crew, to be part of the system and help out, because he was an outstanding player and a tough bloke as well," Lawson said yesterday. "We could do with a few of those characteristics among the guys at the moment.
"I'm hoping to talk to all those people and see what contributions they can make. We can't control outside influences but it would be good if we could have some of those outside influences being positive."
Why does he have to use big mouth Javed as his support staff. He certainly should use a local chap as his supprt staff so that they can learn new ideas and concepts but there are others whom I am sure would be better suited than big mouth Javed...............

^ Its a tactic....he knows Mee-an-dad will never take the role of the side-kick batting coach or support coach...but this way he can later tell Mee-an-dad to shut the h*** up when he criticizes him again.

I predict Lawson's appoitment would be a disaster, and it would not be all Lawson's fault.
Lets not be so pessimistic.
If the players are ok with him and respond to his ideas and the PCB backs him 100% then he should do no worse then Woolmer, and actually better becuase he should be able to get the team some overseas wins as well.
Lets see.

I am all up for the idea that PCB should try to have atleast one of its cricketers(waqar or Aqib or shoaib mohammad or rashid latif) someone who has played cricket recently and not someone like Muddasar or Jaalal-Udeen or even even haroon rashid. so that in long run Pak has its own pool of people to chose from for coahing its teams. first advantage of having such person in Lawson's support staff is that this person is not only going to be able to coach Pak team in future but also before that time arrives this person can coach Pak A, U-19, U-15 etc etc.......I think Aqib Javed should be let stay with U-19. he has given Pak some good results with those teams ...and i do not think that staying at U-19 level will hurt Aqib Javed's experties and if only thing, when he is going to be able to come to point to coach Pak he will be in much better condition to coach Team Pak....so for right now Waqar, Rashid, or someone else can be the right people to be included in Lawson's Support staff....and not someone from Javed's generation....for example Javed, Muddasar, Haroon etc etc
I really hopes Javed denies this offer, if there is an offer coz all of it just coming from media and nothing official has been made yet....i dont want Team Pak coaching staff to get in situation where two people who both think are incharge, trying to run their show in their own resective ways....if javed accepts the offer then it will be very unlikely that Javed will listen to Lawson and chances are that Javed will try to throw some of his experties in and based on that there could be a conflict between two coaches and javed (or some other ex cricket, sitting outside) will try to make that as an issue and might even try to make a case that Lawson is not suited for the team as Boys are having trouble undertsanding him and BOYS want javed to be the only coach as they are able to understand him well.........

Sarfraz to file a case against board
KARACHI: Pakistan’s former Test fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz has flayed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for appointing former Australian cricketer Geoff Lawson as a new coach of the Pakistan cricket team. Talking to Daily Times here Tuesday, outspoken Sarfraz said the PCB succumbed to the player-power and did what the players ‘wanted’. “It is the victory of player-power,” he added.
Sarfraz, who has played 55 Tests and 45 one-day internationals for Pakistan, said in Pakistan cricket there were many big names who could have proved better choice. “Lawson does not have any international coaching experience. Despite this shortcoming, he has been given the coveted job,” he lamented. The former lanky fast bowler, considered as the pioneer of reverse swing, said soon he would file a case against the PCB for appointing a foreigner as the national coach and neglecting the talented former Pakistani Test cricketers.
Sarfraz gave the examples of Richard Pybus and Bob Woolmer. “Under their coaching Pakistan cricket, instead of going upward, went down the drain. And despite that bitter experience, the PCB has once again opted for a foreign coach.” Sarfraz also expressed surprise over the appointment of a bowler as the coach saying that the Pakistan team needed a lot of attention in the batting department. “Why do we have a fast bowler as a coach when we lose matches due to our batting flops? I can’t understand the logic. Next they will bring a foreign batting coach,” he maintained.

Listening to one of those Sarfaraz interview videos posted in the other forum makes me wonder how he could have pioneered anything. He speaks like an inarticulate and hardly analytical politician - a la Laloo Yadav.
Somebody should instead sue him for coming out with the gambling syndicate conspiracy theory within hours of Woolmer's death.
I do believe though that its the media that is the most to blame. Sarfaraz and the media scratch each other's back in a way - the media is always in the lookout for masala news and they can trust Sarfaraz Nawaz to provide them with that everytime.
