Re: mermaids? what's in fashion?

I had a fish-tail one made......complete with the hook for your pinky finger when you are on the dance floor. Haven't worked up the nerve to wear it yet.

But yeah.....fish-tail or mermaid.....it's still in.

Re: mermaids? what's in fashion?

What planet do you people live in?

The last time I wore a gharara/sharara or something close was ten years back.

fashion

these days seems like everything is fashion. would u agree?????

Re: mermaids? what’s in fashion?

^ Why?

I love to wear them whenever the opportunity arises.

Re: mermaids? what’s in fashion?

common shararah/gharah never go old…its a classic and always been worn in weddings.

I love ghararas

Re: mermaids? what’s in fashion?

LB, I haven’t worn a lengha since I was 8 years old. I can’t wait to wear one again. I feel weird wearing it to someone else’s wedding, but since this is a family occassion, I get to deck out, :hula: , and I ain’t missing this opportunity.

Although, this lengha makes me look fat since it flares out, I don’t really care. It’s really nice, I like the kaam on it. I love gharara’s too, but I think those would make me look even more massive than a lengha.

Re: mermaids? what’s in fashion?

Last time i wore a gharara was on my phupoos wedding 11 years back.

It was my mum’s wedding dress and for some reason she agreed that i could wear it n i loved it.
It was a banarsi gharara with a plain red fitting shirt and one of those old style see through tissue duppatta with tussle gota at the end.

Unfortunately it wasnt a good omen as i got married soon after that.
Its gotta be the curse of that outfit :chusni:

but it looked cool. only cause it was my mum’s and every one knew that my mum wore it on her wedding day and i was the center of attention :halo:

Re: mermaids? what’s in fashion?

Oh my Muzna. You and a mermaid lehenga, so cute! We want pictures, regardless of you wearing it or not, but u better wear it for us so we can have a pic to feast our eyes on :clown: pweej!

Re: mermaids? what's in fashion?

hehe....now there's an idea.....get dressed up for no reason and take photos.....

I absolutely love gharraras. They are so elegant and old-worldy.

Mehnaz, gharraras don't make you look fat if they are made correctly. Just like any other item of clothing, if tailor fitted, they will accentuate your waist, not your hips.

Re: mermaids? what's in fashion?

Does anyone wear shalwar qameez any more??? I am trying to get a sharara not sure how easy that'll be. So far the kaam walay people have said they need more time to make it the way I want it and we have only 3 weeks till my people return to the US :(

Re: mermaids? what's in fashion?

Ladies whats the difference between a lehenga and sharara? Is it based on your height, for instance one looks better on taller girls than say short ones?

Re: mermaids? what's in fashion?

belle, I always thought lengha and sharara were the same thing. Lengha is the punjabi term for sharara .... so I was told. Gharara are the pant type lenghas/shararas.

Re: mermaids? what's in fashion?

I like ghararas better than shararas.

I thought shararas and lenghas were the same as well. Or perhaps lenghas are worn with a short shirt, whereas shararas have longer shirts? (making things up)

Re: mermaids? what's in fashion?

I thought shararas were the wide legged palazzo pant/pajama type things. If you've seen the Pakistani drama Umrao Jaan that is what the girls were wearing under their peshwaaz style shirts. Ghararas have the gathers at the knee on each leg.

Re: mermaids? what's in fashion?

^shararas are like skirts, no?

Re: mermaids? what’s in fashion?

Sharara’s are like skirts … I really don’t think there is a difference between a lengha and a sharara.
