Re: Wedding Bands
My parents wanted to gift my husband a platinum wedding band, we even picked out a really nice one at Tiffany’s but hubby said no because Islamically, men are not allowed to wear any metal except silver. We even suggested that he take it and keep it but he said he wants to wear his band so it would be pointless to get him anything else. So when he came a couple of days before the wedding, I took him back to Tiffany’s and he picked out a nice silver band of his choice. I hardly wear my wedding ring but he never takes his off
which reminds me, he gave me a solitaire at Nikkah and I am suppose to get the wedding band at rukhsati.. does that mean I have to give him another wedding band then too ![]()
Re: Wedding Bands
^ no I think you are only supposed to give it once.
So Muslim men can only wear silver??? I thought it was just gold that they couldn't wear!
Re: Wedding Bands
Naqsa, that’s what I thought too but husband said no. Here’s the reasoning:
Are men allowed to wear white gold rings or those that are made from metal, wood, brass, etc…

Some said platinum is allowed but he doesn’t agree. Khair, whichever he’s happy and comfortable with.
Re: Wedding Bands
My parents bought my husband a platinum ring, which is too heavy for me but he loves it so I'm happy!
Re: Wedding Bands
My husband asked for a silver band due to the islamic reasoning and i got it custom made.
Got my hubby a tungsten band at our engagement. Wanted to buy a platinum one but was told not to go for it by my friend.
As far as the no gold for men thing is concerned. I got a guyfriend of mine to ask a scholar in Chicago & he told me that gold is Haram because of two reasons. First it gives a feminine look. Second supposedly if a man wears expensive things he'll have "taqabur" & can hurt others that way.
For Rukshati I plan to buy a platinum band no matter what. Not really digging silver. Hubby doesn't want it though. Says he already has a ring & doesn't see any point in buying another one. On the other hand I feel weird because I'll most probably be getting a complete wedding ring set for the wedding besides the engagement ring I have.
I'm in the same boat. I got my fiance a really nice watch for our engagement and he never wears it, and I spent like $1000 on it, I'm debating if I should get him a band because gold is haram, but he says he doesn't like wearing rings or watches, so I'm kinda stuck.
I dont even know if jewlery shops even sell just "silver" bands....can't even get white gold cause its still considered "gold"
Re: Wedding Bands
^ Shops sell silver, titanium, tungsten, palladium, platinum, etc. There's lots of options other than gold. But if he won't wear the band, ask him what he would like. Maybe a fancy engraved iPhone or something :D
Re: Wedding Bands
^ they usually do carry silver bands.
My husband and I also exchanged rings on the wedding day.

Yea, he really wants a IPhone, can they get engraved? lol I didn't even know that..
Re: Wedding Bands
^ Yep. And personalized with designs and such too. I think that's a really nice gift to give him, if that's what he wants. My husband loves his!! It would be a cute surprise -- and unique.
^ I will look into that... thanks!
ooooh Tungsten !!! I'm in LOVEE with Tungsten !! More durable and long-lasting and it looks soo good !! Husband didn't like it so we got Italian Platinum instead - matching bands and then I chose my engagement ring according to the wedding band (even though I think it's supposed to be the other way around !!!) Then I got his name with our wedding date engraved in mine and he has my name engraved with our wedding date in his.

Iphone would be any man's top choice on his wish list but be prepared to become the second wife for a few days as soon as he gets it :p lol.. for two days, my husband would be TOO busy playing with his new toy even while talking to me.. it has gotten better though :D
Re: Wedding Bands
Get an iphone for yourself as well. As soon as we got back to NY from the wedding, the first purchase we made were 2 iphones. We both love them and we both usually use them at the same time, usually while watching tv so you will never feel like hes ignoring you. :)

SGC, That's what I got my hubby, and 12.5 years ago, it was $90!

My MIL keeps telling me to hide my hubby's iPhone. lol
I don't think he'd every forgive me. :D
Re: Wedding Bands
There are Iphone engravers on Ebay and u can even get them gold or white gold plated :)
I wouldn't allow hubby not to wear a wedding band, I know it's not an Islamic practice but I want others to know that he's 'taken' (not that it would stop some people but still....)
Re: Wedding Bands
niksik, hahahhaha! titanium is the best!
deeba, lol, that phase will pass... but just make sure to get him something he will wear.
