I think the expectation will naturally be there of someone whom you decided to share and merge every aspect of your life with. The word expect can also be used defensively and it shouldn’t be like that. It’s kinda like asking do you expect me to cook and clean and pay the bills…when these things are also basic and are done without thinking so hard about them. It’s said that Allah will ask us as to whether we visited and enquired after those who were sick and if this is a general admonishment that includes even those who are not related to us, phir to family members have more of a right to us in this regard.
