re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

Where did you hear that? It’s had the second-biggest opening to-date for a Pakistani film:

boxofficereport: Top 12 Opening Days In Pakistan

People are congratulating the cast and crew. Mahesh Bhatt tweeted the following:

*“Main Houn Shahid Afridi a Pak film about a boy emulating the cricket star has done wonders at the box office in Pakistan. Congrats Humayun”

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

viewer comment :D

very well written and way better than india's bull**** movies. Loved the character of Maulvi Majeed. Keep it up Humayun Saeed and keep producing movies like MHSA "ab um no ball karwa k tumhra sar pharay ga"

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

The movie’s review is the second most popular story on Dawn.com trending for the last three days.

And the final verdict is really quite positive:

"The problem with the industry is that no one wants to appreciate a good mainstream family movie – especially from people within the film fraternity. I could hear murmurs about art and intelligence, as soon as I ventured outside the screening. For these self-made connoisseurs of the medium, I only point to the deafening applause the film collected two or three times.

**A film that looks good, keeps you engaged, lets you unwind and then coerces (some if not all) to wild-cheering is a product well-made **– and as the tickets will tell – well-sold."

Movie Review: Main Hoon Shahid Afridi - DAWN.COM

Dawn has very high standards, so an endorsement from its film critic is quite an achievement. And reflects well on this movie. :k:

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

More power to Humayun saeed

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

High standards ? What happened to them ?

Whoever wrote that article needs to go back to writing classes. I tried reading two paragraphs and then had to give up.

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

Your comment echoes some of the comments on the blog bashing the reviewer but some of those arm-chair ‘critics’ even seem confused about whether the reviewer liked the movie or disliked it. Bizarre. Actually I found the review not that bad. And it is a blog post, posted on the eve of the film release, so perhaps it’s more of a rough draft; by the time it appears in print in Dawn’s Images section on Sunday, it will be tweaked I guess.

At least Dawn tries to give credit where it is due even when the movie, like this one, is sponsored by a rival media house. Its review of Josh was very critical but on the same front page of Images, there was a profile and interview of Josh’s director, Irum. And, from what I remember, that interview was quite celebratory in nature, generously praising the director’s work ethics and dedication to her craft.

Philosophy, from what I read in a review, Mahnoor Baloch makes “limited appearance” only. She’s the wife, perhaps estranged at first, of Humayun Saeed, who becomes a cricket team’s coach 15 years after his fall from grace as a national cricketer in the wake of being caught up in a drug scandal. The couple apparently has a 15 or so year old son too so they are perhaps “middle-aged” in the movie, and not, say, young college love-birds. There are other young actors in the movie though.

As for why she was picked, perhaps because she decided to charge less as she’s likely in the twilight of her career. :hehe: But honestly, she doesn’t look too ‘old’ or shabby at all. Also, perhaps she was one of the only Pakistani actresses who, at the latter stage of her career she’s now, could risk her reputation starring in the so-called “item number” or other possible “bold” scenes in the movie. It’s actually sad that while Pakistani audiences love their Sheilas and Munnis and Chamak Chalo–and films featuring those do the most business in Pak–the same people throw all kind of labels and insults at Pakistani actresses who would dare acting in a similar "bold’ manner. Sad. But we can hope that things will get better with time as more movies get released. Hopefully.

Completely agree. Ramchand Pakistani is available on amazon as well. Although this movie is a “masala” musical, and thus can’t possibly rival movies like Ramchand Pakistani, I won’t mind paying $3 to $5 to rent this movie on Amazon Instant Videos just to see what the fuss is all about. It can’t be too cheesy.

Watch it people!

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

still no online links :chai: ???

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

wow people feel no shame in stealing

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

here its not about stealing, its about excitement to watch this shahkar, which will not be otherwise available on DVDs, etc in the area where these very few fans of Pakistani movis live. salute to their jazba :salute:

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

And what is your perspective of betterment? People start hating shielas and munnis or being more accepting to Pakistani actresses emulating them?

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

It's nice to hear this film doing good business in Pakistan. We need to support this industry. And I really think Pakistanis (at least overseas Pakistanis) should wait for the movie to come out on DVD. And buy the DVD or buy the movie through any other channel where the revenue would go back to Pakistan.

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

I think this got cultural connotations. like they say ‘tumhari maa behn nahin hai kia’. so, people feel bad when Mahnoor did what padosi Munni / shiela are doing better and at large scale :hehe:

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi

Still how can you tolerate the bad prints? it’s no fun to watch like this.

re: Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi
