I agree to the above understanding that it is an act of bid’ah. So let’s say someone invites you to attend one, is it your responsibility to educate them or politely refuse attending and come up with some excuse?

Majority of the people are not going to listen, so I say - make an excuse. I would say that I have to go somewhere, and just so it would not be a lie, I will go somewhere
