Re: meaning of Alif, Laam, Meem
Peace Sister Dushwari
I would be loathe to attempt an answer to this. None knows the TRUE meanings to these letters, save Allah (SWT), but we know some things about them and can ponder over them and observe some hindsight wisdoms.
We know they might be acronyms for Words, because the reward of Alif, Laam, Meem is not one but three as three words.
Some place I have heard that the Qur'an teaches Arabic and has preserved the mouth positions of the letters in the Qur'an. Alif is formed in the back of the mouth almost throat like the stop with hamza, without any obstruction, the letter laam is formed with the tongue touching the back teeth emanating from the middle of the mouth and the meem is formed at the front of the mouth. The three letters symbolise the full extents of the Arabic alphabet, from beginning to end. When placed before the verse ... This (That) is the Book in which there is no doubt ... we get ...
From beginning to end ... that is the Book in which there is no doubt. Of course this is not the meaning of these letters, but it is an interesting insight.
