Markets in Meltdown

Re: Markets in Meltdown

sigh yeah
but now I dont want to get out of the market, i will ride it out. unless I can time a better exit to safer havens and then jump back in at the right time

Re: Markets in Meltdown

I am down 20pct for 2008! Ouch

Should I cut bait and cash out or stay in?

Re: Markets in Meltdown

TA- i have mixed results I actually have 3% gain in one portfolio, rest are all down but teh biggest loss I have is 5%. it works out okay because i had really good gains last year.

The challenge is that many ppl bail when the market is low and then buy when its goign higher and if you do it a few times a year it wipes all your gains pretty much.

I would say stay in, when thiungs stabilise a bit and you have recouped some losses see what funds you should move into.

Re: Markets in Meltdown

TA, OUCH!!!

Re: Markets in Meltdown

The damage has been done, so unless you need the money stay in.

Re: Markets in Meltdown

What do you guys think of MSFT? Its looking pretty yummy currently.

Re: Markets in Meltdown

^ I think they are doing the Yahoo deal out of desperation. Both companies have lost the search business and do not have a great record of ad revenues. I just don't see how $1B synergy savings that they claim justifies a $45B bet!

Yes they will combine the MSN and Yahoo communities - so what? neither have monetized well.

I think Microsoft has weakened themselves, spent all their cash. Wouldn't have minded a all stock deal

Re: Markets in Meltdown

The news from the markets is not encouraging at all. FTSE has sunk below 6000 and despite an interest rate cuts has moved south today. We are in a prolonged downturn now.

Re: Markets in Meltdown

Dow down another 300 points today, diving toward declines for both the week and the month of February after massive losses by both the American International Group and poor results from Dell.

Re: Markets in Meltdown

Oh wow —

umm mathlab key in logo ko koyee hope nahee key market will EVER recover!

Re: Markets in Meltdown

Dow closed down 315.79 points. Will we see the 12,000 being breached on the downside next week?

Re: Markets in Meltdown

dunno, seems to be down all over
FTSE 100 down to 5884
Dax by 114 to 6748
Cac 40 down to 4790

i think next week will be a down week.
next few weeks actually.

Re: Markets in Meltdown

Dow closes just above the 12000 level at 12040, whole nasdaq and S&P close at their lowest since 2006, with oil prices rising to a record level and more bleak news from the financial sector, including a default at mortgage lender Thornburg Mortgage Inc. and news that Merrill Lynch & Co. is opting out of the subprime mortgage market.

We could see 10,000 on the dow from here.

get ready for a rough ride.

Re: Markets in Meltdown

how are the other indexes doing?

Re: Markets in Meltdown

Being an election year.....I don't think DOW would drop to 10,000 but again as I have always said we are in a recession and I see a very slim chances of recovering in the next couple of months atleast. Best bet is to short on the financial sector or the popular banks.......I have a very strong feeling that one or more of the banks are going DOWN......needless to say that Citi group will be saved by the feds interference.

Re: Markets in Meltdown

For Short term, MSFT is a NO NO, but long term I would put my money in it. There is no IT bubble to burst so don't fear, you shd get good returns for long terms but again I really don't like long term investments. The day we are out of this mess which I predict would take atleast an year....you are looking at alleast 20 - 30 % profits in MSFT.

Re: Markets in Meltdown

FTSE, Dax, CAC all down and heading south.

Dow at mid day is trading below 12000. Will be interesting to see where it finsihes the day. Wil ti regain the 12000 or close below it.

Asian markets are also down

Re: Markets in Meltdown

Oil at a new record high of $106.54

Re: Markets in Meltdown

Markets seem to breaking down. Dow closed 146.7 down at 11893.69

Re: Markets in Meltdown

Dow breached 11000 on the down side today, doesnt look like any end in sight at the moment. Beware of dead cat bounces and dont get sucked in. This market is going only one way and that is down.
