Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

^Pakistan is not even getting the 7.5 billions as for the past 2 years they have not given them even a penny.

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

Question is, why would it be any more 'dignified' or have more 'ghairat' if they had given us more money over the years. Its the ghairat point I dont understand.

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

ghairat point is for when our government/army are okay with drone bombings, when they are okay with operation OBL for the sake of money, when our government sells our people for $$$, when you supply food, ammunition, diapers to enemy to kill your own people.

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

besides our establishment and our govt, nobody is going to benefit from the resumption nato routes.

I wonder what happenend to that parliamentary committee that had recommended conditions to reopen nato routes.

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

All these committees, panels, parliament and senate are good for nothing. What suits the leaders of parties will eventually happen...

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

I just heard this saying this morning and I immediately thought of this situation.

Dogs are always more loyal to their masters than their own kind.
On the other hand, lions protect their own kind against predators ( or hunters/killers/raiders/pillagers).

Does Pakistani leadership count among the dogs or the lions ? Hmmm.... That's an easy question. Right ?

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

so as I thought, the ghairat point doesnt have anything to do with reopening the routes and the conditions surrounding the closure and opening of the routes, but a more general opposition predating the closure of the routes.

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

I know eh!!!. I mean only party to benefit is government that is all. Sentiments of our people don't count much. Sad i tell ya!. I was reading paper today somewhere that Pakistan sold for 365m or something.

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

I don't know why this hue and cry? Suppose don't open NATO supply routes, straining the ties with USA and other NATO countries, resulted in sanctions and bans, how Pakistan will survive then? Do you think China or Muslim brother countries will come to your rescue? The first reaction will be diband of army as there would be no billions to feed them.

Husain Haqqani on Nato routes

Speaking on “The Brief”, hosted by Christiane Amanpour, Haqqani said, “**Pakistanis have to wake up to the fact that whatever advantages they have as the ground line of communication (GLOCs) provider, that advantage is not going to last forever. As the Americans withdraw, yes, they need Pakistan to withdraw their heavy equipment. But in a worst case scenario, they can say ‘Blow up the equipment, let’s get out of here through other means.’”

**“**We need to crack down on these extremists for Pakistan’s sake. More Pakistanis have been killed by them than they have killed Americans…. America will leave Afghanistan someday. But we will still be haunted by the remnants.”
**However, he said that the main sticking point remained a gulf of trust deficit between the two allies, and a reduced space within Pakistan to openly discuss pragmatic aspects of the troubled bilateral relation. “Look, I am, as a Pakistani, very concerned about the direction of my own country. I am among those who feel that there are elements in Pakistani society who don’t allow us to have an honest and realistic debate about foreign policy.”
“We just want to blame our neighbors, our enemies,” said Haqqani, “we don’t want to take account of what’s wrong at home.”
However, he reminded that there were genuine concerns for Pakistan in Afghanistan, which many felt were being ignored. “We are concerned about the future of Afghanistan. We don’t want India to create a kind of presence in Afghanistan that the US wouldn’t have tolerated if the Soviets had created it in Mexico during the Cold War,”
he said
As a solution, the former ambassador proposed honesty. “**We both need to have an honest discussion.”
He hinted that a small group of people wished to hijack the public debate for ulterior motives. “Pakistan needs to discuss its relations with the US honestly and openly within its society, instead of allowing a small group of people ideologically motivated and seeking essentially the domination of an Islamist ideology within Pakistan, but unable to get votes. They should not be allowed to dominate the discourse within Pakistan”

**On the American side, Haqqani said that in his formal capacity as Ambassador, he often urged US to understand Pakistani sentimentalities. “**We helped the Americans fight the Soviets in the ‘80’s and what was the result? Civil war in Afghanistan, the Americans left, we were left with the baby and we paid the price for the civil war. Then 9-11 came, we became partners with the Americans again, and this time when the Americans leave, we will still be picking up the pieces.”
**
**“Your domestic politics and our domestic politics often come in the form of a clash, and when they clash nothing good comes out of it.”
**“Talk to any Pakistani for five minutes,” he said, “and by the fifth minute he will be getting angry about America far more than he would about whoever hid Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. Now there’s been a year that’s gone and we haven’t yet prosecuted anyone for hiding and protecting Osama bin Laden there. So my point is, as Pakistanis, we need to take some responsibility.”

Despite this, when Pakistan sought token retribution in the aftermath of the November 26, 2011, when a Nato airstrike killed 24 Pakistanis soldiers, it was ignored. “Pakistan demanded an apology for the Salala incident (the lethal air strike) when Pakistan’s troops were killed. America disregarded that request.”

Advantage from Nato supply route will not last forever: Husain Haqqani – The Express Tribune

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

and that money is going into their pockets, its not reaching the common man.

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

Dont forget next budget is comming. Sheikh saab need numbers from govt.to fill in the blanks in this budget. Number were what our govt.was waiting for from US,now that we have nubmers we will not see any new visible tax in new budget and 100,000 job will b put on auction...like always.
Yes many will profit....and much much more will suffer.

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

^ I agree with you the government needs to sort out this matter before the budget, so that they can throw out some benefits and try to buy off people but I don't think anything will work now. The government can try all the desperate measures they can, if economy and development was the bench mark Musharrafs party should have won the 2008 elections.

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

Don't worry, if US wants to force sanctions they will find one reason or the other anyways, no matter how much you bend backwards that will never be enough for SAM.

Re: Many will profit if Pakistan reopens NATO supply routes

SAM is a darling...let's 'do more' for it :D
