Good news at last. The former navy chief and his collaborators have been sentenced to imprisonment. This verdict must be a good lesson for other perpetrators and hopefully the level of corruption in Pakistan will sink. It seems that the judiciary in Pakistan has somehow survived the dark era of Zia and NS.
KARACHI: Former navy chief Mansorul Haq, who was stripped of his official rank two years ago after a plea bargain with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), was convicted and sentenced by an accountability court on Thursday to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 2 million for losing the national exchequer a loss of Rs 1.84 billion in the purchase deal of three vessels for the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC).
Does anyone know how much he actually received in kickbacks? I heard he had a house that even the elite goras used to envy in the US. That was certainly alot more than 2 million Rs. Kher, he did get 7 years, thats what he deserved.

Zakk for the amount of loot khasoot he did, I would go to jail for 8 years also. the Return on Investment is quite high.
Imdad, I know bhai, bas zara march and drill waghaira say allergy hai warna idea burrna naheen hai.
aur kucch naheen toh religious political party bana kar ayyashi karri ja sakti hai, paisay iran ya saudi arabia say mil jaen gaye. warna uncle sam pehlay bhi detay thay, shayad ab dobarah daen..
It's much more difficult and almost impossible to bring an army General to justice. PAF and Pak Navy have always dissociated themselves from the trickery politics of the Army, though they have been offered a fair share of the booty. No pain no gain.
Fraudz: I agree with you, but I have a problem with double standards.
You can't expect the nation to imrpove when the law is selectively applied. SOme chors become federal Ministers, others have eaten their mice and are sitting in Jeddah, why is Zardari targetted for special treatment?
Zakk maybe because of the level of corruption, as well as his stature..he was more visible. plus teh punishment has to equal the crime. diff chor have diff punishments based on the severity of their crimes.
so more people need to be brough to justice, thats a fact.. but those who have faced justice should not be let go just because other ones have not been brought to justice.
Fraudz; by existing Pakistani laws he would be entitled to parole/bail in the cases he has been convicted of(whichare abiut ...one thing having assets disproportionate to his income) ...if you look at the rest of the cases ..he has been acquitted of most and is out on bail on the rest. His incarceration now has little to do with insaf..and a lot to do with politics.
i agree insaaf has not been served, i think there is a lot more stuff that he needs to be charged with and made to walk the plank.
so in one way there is injustice that he is punished more than for what crimes he has been charged with, although a lot of his and his wife's loot khasoot needs to be taken back, as well as his own jaidaad as punitive damages.
And then they need to investigate him more for the types of things his goons did during BB's power.
because insaaf is when he is punished for his crimes, he may have served more time for the crimes he has been found guilty of, but there is a lot more they can find on him..why dont they.. i think that has to do with politics too.
Fraudz, Nawaz Sharif was doing the same. targetting Benazir and co..while robbing the country blind. If this government really wanted to fight for insaaf, they wouldn't be scared of it...whats happening now is called victimisation...selective application of the law..
although teh words victim and zardari together look kinda out of synch dont they?
the fact that he is being punished more than others for teh crimes he has been charged with is one
however there is so much else that this guy was behind that had he been charged with all that he would have been lynched.
it is selective application, and others need to be charged as well, but he should nto be let go just because others have not been charged. The other stuff he has been involved in needs to be investigated as well, they can shorten his sentence for the other crimes based on teh additional time he serves now..
.in the end, the guy is a crook, and even if other croosk are out there, atleast there is one less.
