Yellow Cabs… Okay
Laptops… Terrible. Would have been better off setting up and upgrading computer labs in Government schools and colleges with the same funds. Personal glorification of SS and NS could have been avoided. Should have just sent coupons to deserving students instructing them when and where they could pick up their laptops. A lot of money could have been saved that way.
Solar Panels… Fine, from the perspective that at least awareness of opportunities for harnessing solar energy would increase in masses.
Metro Bus.. Definitely needed, and similar projects in other big cities are desperately needed too. It is a bit unfair to SS comparing cost of Metro Bus project to other development expenditure in the province. Investment in Metro Bus is a one time major outlay and not a lot of operating cost is involved. Those how say that 10 hospitals could have been constructed with the same investment are right, but then government would have no money to OPERATE those hospitals in future. Hospitals, schools, etc, do not require HUGE initial investment but need continuous stream of operating costs. The federal government is going to reduce import duty on used cars again. I would rather suggest they increase it three folds and use the funds on public transport. We need less cars on roads, not more. Otherwise, just keep building underpasses and overhead bridges indefinitely.
It was also funny that someone on TV was blaming SS for accumulating waste and litter in and around Nishtar Hospital, Multan. I think that the MS of the hospital should be responsible, not the Chief Minister if there is litter in the hospital!!!
There is criticism that he held 18 ministries. Isn’t it better that one person does the corruption instead of 18 other leeches as well? Almost all members of Baluchistan assemble were ministers. How’s their performance? Yes, situation in schools and hospitals, specially in rural areas is bad. You must visit hospitals and colleges in interior Sindh to know what is TERRIBLE. You can easily pay your way through even MBBS degrees in Sindh (I even know people who did!).
Yes, some terrible decisions but all in all, SS has performed much better COMPARED to other CMs. Forget about education and health… THOUSANDS of people lost their lives in Karachi over last few years. SS would have been grilled alive if that happened in Lahore. Even if you claim that recent sectarian violence is being perpetrated by groups from South Punjab, why I don’t see any criticism of Sindh government in controlling target killings and extortion during the first 4 years?
