fair enough. I actually realized that after I posted.
Younis not a very poor player. but he is a poor player. he should be competing for a spot with Fawad Alam, etc.
firstly, averages aren’t everything. Malik has played many good innings in ODIs. Younis has not.
and pacing means steadily upping the run rate as the inning progresses before launching an all-out attack in the death overs. even Malik’s worst enemies should admit that Malik knows how to pace an innings and has played innings like that before.
and if Malik is horrible against pace bowling… then when has Younis covered himself in glory against fast bowling. what did he do in all the ODIs on fast pitches? his technique is much better than Malik’s. all I hear is Malik can’t bat against fast bowlers. well guess what Younis hasn’t done much against real pace either.
it isn’t about piercing the field. at least take singles. if Yousuf/Malik/Inzi did it, then Younis should learn to as well. it’s about bloody time.
and btw, the difference between a class batsman and a decent one is the ability to pierce the field and find the gaps even with ground strokes. that’s what all great batsmen did. Younis should learn to as well - at the age of 34.
