Making Roti

Re: Making Roti

I Beleive thats what most women do living abroad... I use a pancake pan.

Re: Making Roti

I use wholewheat plus I put 2 tbs cooking oil also while kneading the dough it makes roti soft

Re: Making Roti

Yeah you can use fryingpan aswell not a big difference

Making Roti

Great! My atta keeps is so soft that the roti breaks from places. What should I do about that?

Re: Making Roti

Daffy, if it the ata has become too soft this once , then just add a bit more of the dry flour and goond it with least possible water .. it will become thicker as the dry flour absorbs the extra water ..

But if its a general thing that ata becomes soft after a day .. then you just gotta remember to knead it to harder consistency , matlab lesser water when you are kneading it

Re: Making Roti

It can be due to different reasons, If soft then yes CB has recommended very true. But sometimes roti also breaks when you have not kneaded very well and some solid part not very big is in between. Dont use ata right after kneading wait for 15 minutes as sometimes fresh ata roti also breaks

Daffy... I have a tawa like they use in pak. You can get it from any Asian shop that sells utensils etc

Re: Making Roti

the other day I was surprised to see non stick Tawa's in Wilkinsons .. look for it , you might find one in your nearest store

Re: Making Roti

Things I learned from this thread that actually helped better my rotis:

Properly kneeding the ata
oil to ata

thanks kids.

I like use Chakki atta. The rotis are come out very nice . It's supposedly healthier. In USA the brand I use is sujata or swad. Everyone in my family uses golden temple which I feel has too much maida - white flour added to it. This is best for fried breads like poori or kachoris.
