Making Ramadan special for kids

Re: Making Ramadan special for kids

Proto, your journal is lovely, mashaAllah!
We do somewhat similar activities everyday but not is such systematic way. May I copy your idea for my youngest, please??

Having him tell you the story is caller a retelling and it’s a good literary development strategy for kids. If he’s really young to where recalling a story from the previous year may be hard, use a smaller gap b/w the retellings..maybe a gap of a few days, etc.

Re: Making Ramadan special for kids

He’s almost 7, I don’t know if that’s too young but I know he remembers at least some of them because I’ve heard him tell them to his younger brother on 5 months (He has high expectations from him :hehe: )

Re: Making Ramadan special for kids

I have added Surat e fatiha to his YT list. He listens it several times during the day and refers it to Allah. We are making poster cards for family. We will be mailing them in couple weeks. We read few pages of Allah to Z or colors of islam everyday. We are decorating home with Ramzan posters (we make them together) and will put lights later on. He reads namaz with us everyday. That’s pretty much it. He is just 22 months so it is a very vague concept for him.

Re: Making Ramadan special for kids

i friend of mine posted a picture of a great idea. Her son is 6 and they created a Masjid Sadaqah bank. Looked pretty simple to make. I really liked the idea and can’t wait to make something similar with my son when he is a little older.

Re: Making Ramadan special for kids

I can’t wait to do all of these next year iA although Lusi has some great ideas for the younger set so I think I can definitely work on some arts and crafts and general knowledge with mine. I have to get some lights and decoration too for the house.

Re: Making Ramadan special for kids

I’m not sure if this counts, but for one of my nieces, she started coming with us for Isha and Taraweeh to the masjid. Most of the time my wife and I would go pick up even though her dad was also coming because it was more fun for her that way.

Re: Making Ramadan special for kids

I thought I will update here..my son absolutely loved the activity calendar. We were couple of days behind because he got sick so we tried to squeeze in a few things the last few days.. I had planned to decorate the house with him but i ended up doing it all by myself the night before eid.. the look on his face, when he saw lights, on eid morning was priceless.. I am glad I did it that way.

He didnt understand why we were “donating” toys but he was happy to pack them and drop them off at goodwill. so proud of him.

Overall, totally worth it. He did ask me couple of times about Eid and gift but I told him Eid will be here when there are stars in all pockets.. he just didnt care after that

For eid, we did Widgits blocks, Ilyas and Duck books, tow truck puzzle that he had asked for and zoo membership. He loved it all.
