Very interesting, I like your advice. I love when people can apply rules of practical life to such stuff. I can try darker, but I know my moms gonna flip, but let’s see if it does work for me. Definitely worth a shot!

I also think I might just be too fussy, I need someone asides my mom (hypercritical), my husband (clueless), and me (indecisive) to come help in selecting foundation.

I think as far as the brands go - I have no experience or expertise - so go with the advice from the experts here …

I think less is more … Fair skin shines and Tan skin glows …

It’s possible that skin is not monotone hence the selections will match your skin in some places but not in other places - so safer to go one shade darker than your skin to totally avoid cake look … cake look is due to dark skin appearing beneathe light top layer - similar things occur in graphics … When painting we are advised to put lighter colours on behind the darker ones … so it is common sense to layer the foundation with a slightly darker shade rather than same or lighter/fairer shade to your skin …

Make the layers ultra thin … use back of hand to apply each layer whatever you are using concealer or foundation and apply with fingers not sponge and wet a large clean sponge and spread in to the pores as though you are nearly doing maalish … this will blend with your natural skin colour more finely and look more natural.

I feel it is the way it is applied sometimes that is just as important as the brand.
