Maiden was synonymous with virginity. Now refering to the sexual disposition of a single woman is not something that is considered appropriate in the west, therefore the word has fallen out of fashion. Maiden (Madchen) comes from the German for Girl so it means a young female i.e. one who is not a woman. As someone inducated above it is used for “maiden name” which is your name before you got married i.e. with your father’s last name.

If you were to say I am a maiden, you’d be saying you are unmarried, a girl and implying virginity but you don’t really need all that anymore, you can say you are single.
