Well, coming down to my experience, I think my husband and his brother are very open in complementing their wives (no, TLK still has one wife 
), and acknowledging any of their skills or knowledge. My dad has always been appreciative of my mom who is also a physician like him and was at one point making a lot more than he was. It never bothered him.
But yes I have seen families where the guy cannot handle a wife being smarter than him. And therefore tries to let her down in some way to cover the gap. I don’t know if it’s a self image issue but I don’t think men in general are like that in this day and age. But again, my stats are based on my circle of influence only.
