Low US Troop Morale

Another Vietnam in the making.

A broad survey of U.S. troops in Iraq (news - web sites) by a Pentagon (news - web sites)-funded newspaper found that half of those questioned described their unit’s morale as low and their training as insufficient, and said they do not plan to reenlist

The survey, conducted by the Stars and Stripes newspaper, also recorded about a third of the respondents complaining that their mission lacks clear definition and characterizing the war in Iraq as of little or no value. Fully 40 percent said the jobs they were doing had little or nothing to do with their training.

coming from a Pentagon-funded newspaper at least eliminates a bias towards painting a grim picture.

^ You’re actually going to give the conspiracy theory a pass on this one?

it's a classic double-bluff architected by the zionist neo-conservative wolf-hawks. I wonder what a three-fingered Vet would think of a wolf hawk?

Re: Low US Troop Morale

What they weren’t trained to kill/rape/oppress? What are they teaching at the academy these days directional oilfield drilling?

better than killing and raping i guess. :-/

But that's always something they're expected to pick up on the job, there have a penchant for it.

The thing you are missing here is that every GI dogface loves to gripe. If you took the same poll during peacetime at their own station there would be a huge ream of complaints.

They are there to get the job done, not be happy about it. And franklty, if you were to ask me how I liked sitting in a desert with 130 degree temps, and morons shooting everyday, I think I would have a complaint or too also. Where are Ann Margaret and some Playboy bunnies and Bob Hope when you need them?

Dead or at an anti-war demo.

You see OG it's all about timing, they were the troops 60 years ago, now they're an occupying force and finding it difficult to come to terms with being mercenaries.

Is this one of those hand and glove situations? Because it is perfectly valid to draw comparisons and there is only one terrorist army in the past 50 years to compare to when it comes to raping and killing millions. If you weren't blind with biasness you could admit that GIs are not raping anyone in Iraq and are bending backwards to avoid civilian casualties.

Poor choice of words semi.

I reiterate, we're in the here and now. How many occupying forces can we measure the scruples of the US military machine against?

Bulldozing crops, raiding innocents houses at the dead of night…Nazi storm trooper fashion. Cluster bombing kids and calling it collateral damage. Rape is a minor misdemeanour which seems to get you crowing.

For good or bad it is impossible to compare the scruples of US military because there has never been such power and responsiblity on one country in the history of the world. Regardless, US soldiers are behaving admirably in difficult circumstances. It was obviously a joke to compare it to a genocide.
Rape- a minor misdemeanor? Where do you come form with such scruples?

Are they really behaving admirably? I guess you're used to your word carrying weight around the water cooler.

The US forces are pretty bad at their job, that much is evident from the fact that half are ready to come home according to the stats and even more don't know their ass from an ambush.

We're not talking any great achievement to rape a pillage a country, further stats quoted by some imbecile in another thread actually trumpeted the fact that the Iraqi’s were all for the troops being there; right at the end it states almost 40% of Iraqi's don't have qualms about killing US soldiers. Sort it out!

It's a bit of mess at the moment to be honest, with no end in sight.

American soldiers are raping Iraq, finding an exit in Afghanistan whilst the economy and social infrastructure is crumbling at home you're paying for the upkeep increasingly and for these forays abroad...but a good little solider never complains...oh hang on they do!

This US military power...what's it doing about NK? You've opened up a can of worms with Israel all for more pre-emption and widening the Middle East conflict and Russia dusting off it's super missiles (to which the US has no answer short of another cold war stand off), the Muslim world at odds with the west increasingly due to US biased foreign policy.

What power? What responsibility? You're the most irresponsible country in history!

All around there is low morale among US troops in Iraq…
