PTI leader Asad Umar told Express News that he was leaving the scene in a car driven by MNA Shafqat Mehmood when they were stopped by the police.
Umar says that they first thought that they were being stopped because the police did not know who they were.
Shafqat Mehmood then stepped out of the car and identified himself, upon which the police officials aggressively charged at their car and broke two of its windows.
Umar added that he along with three other MNAs sped away to escape the assault.
He added that the police had launched an unprovoked attack on them and it was clear that the instructions on the ground was to use as much force, and cause as much as destruction, as possible.
“The container we were on was immediately attacked as soon as anyone of us went on the roof,” he added.
“This was a brutal use of force to intimidate us,” he says, adding that no attempt by anyone from the government was made to approach them when the violence broke out.
“No one has tried to control the situation,” he says. ”The police smashed the windows of the car Shafqat Mehmood and I were riding in.”
He adds that Imran Khan’s container is on main Constitution Avenue, quite far from the President and PM House. “Qadri’s followers are closer to Parliament House,” he added.
