[/QUOTE]

Braves are still there. It will be decided by todays match beteen Braves and Giants.

Thats going to be an exciting game, baseball is the closest thing that comes to cricket, so I don't mind watching, I also played baseball in highschool for couple years so I know a thing or 2.
What time is the Braves and Giants game on.

Not really!
Baseball may not appeal to some narrow minded desis of India and Pakistan but its fun to watch, specially the post season matches.
Almost all games in USA are sold out, more people showup to watch a yankee game than any people to go see a match between Pakistan and Australia in Sharjah.

SF Giants defeats Braves... Moves to NLCS...

yahooooooooooooooooooooooooo...........

Cardinals We are Coming........
You better walk Bonds in all Inings ,otherwse he is gonna kick some ass.

The new heroes of October : Anaheim Angels, upset the Yankees ;)
Derek Jeter has gone home for the winter. Bernie Williams has gone home too, and Mariano Rivera, and the rest of the All-Star cast in pinstripes.
For the first time in the 42-year history of a star-crossed franchise, the Angels won a postseason series.
For the first time since 1997, the World Series will go on without the Yankees.

Thats history folx :D

What a fantastic run though.....a tea that did it with class. It seemed as if the Angels were the tranditional yankees. With speed, manufacturing runs and timely hitting they did to the yanks what the Yanks had been doing to others.

My hat's off to them. I wish them ultimate success. But the Yanks will be back. The nucleus of the team is still there with Bernie, Jeter, Giambi, RIvera, Mussina, Wells and Soriano.

Yeah I can see how those yanks try to sell the Stadium and not the Game. Every now and then they build a new stadium with new facilities to attract crowd to the games. In my town I see people selling tickets for baseball games for 5 bucks before the game. Hell who wouldn't pay $5 to take a tour of a $350m stadium.

Even a Bangladesh-Kenya match will have more crowd in Calcutta then a MLB Final - (That is without any marketting and in a stadium older than the MLB)

Sorry to offend you sir but you have no absolute knowledge about baseball whats so ever. And I don't blame you!

I know you have never seen a baseball game in you entire life, thats why your saying these stuff.

For the past decade, all of NY Yankees games in the past World Series has been sold out, the seating capacity is around 60,000, and thats how many people attend, you can't just predict the whole outcome of the popularity of baseball in USA just from your own experience.

If you want to compare it to the popularity of NFL in USA, Pak vs India match in Calcutta or those 200,000 capacity stadium in Brazil, then yes it doesn't look big, but baseball is alot more popular than you think.

So once again don't generalize your experience to say baseball isn't popular.

If you don't like the game, its fine but to say it is not liked by others is not true.

Here is a link New York Yankees Attendance Records (1901-2026) | Baseball Almanac New York Yankees attendance analysis for every season and ballpark in franchise history.

And Yankee Stadium’s capacity is 75000 approx.

Who is comparing Baseball to NFL or India-pak or a Brazil soccer game, It will be an insult to these games - I already told - A Bangladesh-Kenya match in Dhaka or Eden Gardens will draw more crowd than Yankee stadium has ever managed in its history in one single match.

Anyways - you are right about me never watched a baseball match. Well you are right - I have never watched it - despite the fact that I get 4 BOX tickets every season -most of the time they get unused or I pass it on to some friends to at least go and see what the ‘Greatest ball Park in America’ looks like.

Asif_k, the link you provided is not working or it maybe outdated, look for a different source, I know and I have been watching Post Season Baseball for the past 5 years, and the crowd attendance is 50,000+. I have lived in Newyork for 2 years and I know how many people like or dislike baseball, ask any New Yorker Guppie in here.
You have admited that you don't watch baseball than how do you know the popularity of the game.
Please if you want a decent arguement, please provide some sources.

Asif-K: Comparing cricket to Baseball is like comparing apples and oranges. It is a thinking man's game where every delivery and response has different parameters. Cricket is a great game in it's own right with a long term strategy in play.

As far as attendance is concerned. Yankess avg over 3 million visitiors to the stadium every year. The capacity is 55000+.

This chip on your shoulder about desis wannabes is getting a bit too heavy. It's a game man...like any game it doesn't matter where one comes from. I am from Delhi, played cricket until I came to the US as a young'n and am a huge baseball fan. It doesn't make me appreciate cricket less but am more inclined to watch baseball. I just think for me it is more exciting. (One day matches in cricket are exciting)

I just have an issue with a sport where you take a tea break. :)

Umair316 - It isn't very hard to remove one extra ']' (Which I have removed now and the link works) and check for yourself the attendence (good that now your 60000 has come down to 50000+ - Goto the link you will know the actual figure which is little over 50% of your original no. ). And to know the popularity of game one doesn't need to go to a stadium. I have never been to a Football match (could never get tickets) but I can get a ticket 5 minutes before a baseball game that too for $5-10 and that tells me about the popularity of the game.

CH - I never compared Cricket with Baseball, neither did I say anything about the game, I know it's a game of strategy and planning.

BTW - You have an issue with the TEA BREAKs - But no problems with the TIMEOUTS - see that's what I mean by american wannabies ?? Ohh wait !! - It must be the part of all the Strategy and planning.

Is this figure only for the Games attendance or does it also include the no. of people come to NY as tourists and have 'a tour to Yankee Stadium' included in their City Tour :)

Asif: . Parroting unfactual info doesn't make it right. Baseball players are far better athletes and the skills required are a lot greater than cricket. The hardest thing to do in any sport is to hit a round ball with a round bat..especially when it is coming at you 90 miles and hour fro 60 feet away.

Liking baseball doesn't make me a wannabe and my indianess is not compromised if I like Barry Bonds more than Tendulkar.
Your ability to get a ticket when needed is not an indication of a lack of popularity. As you are aware America has four major sports, three of them overlap at any given time. In small market places like cleveland or minnesota fan participation is diluted due to the sheer size of the cities and competing interests. In a country where you have baseball, hockey, basketball and football overlapping combined with museums, symphonies, opera...it speaks volumes of the popularity of baseball if they can get even 10000 fans per game as they have 81 home games every year. That alone would make the number at 810000.

In India there is nothing other than cricket or the movies for commercial and fan participation that every citizen can enjoy.

Brother CH - I am not sure what 'Unfactual Info' I have been parroting. You are the one who is comparing Baseball to Cricket and Barry Bonds to Sachin Tendulkar. I never question any of that, All I am saying is Baseball is not a very Popular game even in USA.
Btw I would love to those yanks perform in 40 Degrees (Centigrade) for five days in a row bowling 20 overs at a speed of 85 mph.

May be for you, For me it is the easiest thing to do. For me the toughest thing would be is to play the Inswinger, Out swingers, reverse Swing, leg cutter, leg spin, Off Spin, slower balls in one single day (that too just from 22 yards)and not to forget many of these balls are faster than 90 mph.

No, It's your attitude of ridiculing everything which is desi, makes you a Wannabe - You ridicule the concept of TEA BREAK but at the same time very happy to accept TIMEOUTS or half naked bimbos flying their pom poms during every time out. That's just one of the many things.

It looks like you only watch these sports in America - You should have watched Salt lake Winter Olympics, US OPEN, Motor Racings, X Games - And all of them were sold out esp in the events where Americans were performing. Btw did you ever figure out why your above logic doesn't apply to NFL,NHL or NBA ? And let me tell you my city doesn't have an NBA team and NFL/NHL didn't even start at that time still one could get a Ticket for $5 and you should see our Ballpark - Its best in US.

Well, You are damn wrong about India then -
1. We work 6 days (sometimes 7 days) in a week unlike Americans

2. We have a very busy social life unlike Americans and more ways to enjoy than just painting yourself and posing as a brainwashed fan.
3. Our Games are not scheduled on Weekend and evenings
4. We dont have fancy stadiums or Dumb bimbos flying in the air to attract fans.
5. We dont market our sport like these people.

Still we get more viewers. Both in the Stadium and on TV

Lads back to the topic in hand and lets leave this comparison for some other thread.

** Umair this is off topic start a new thread if you wish to continue the disucssion of baseball V cricket**

Haha... what a back-handed compliment :)

Ok, since Yankees were "kicked out" by Angels, so instead of opening a new thread, can we use this same one for MLB Playoffs?

Go Giants Go! :)

So for now the results are like this.

ST Louis Leads the series 1-0
Minnesota and Anaheim tied series 1-1.

Interesting battle coming up with 4 teams who I thought would not have a chance against the teams they defeated in the first round (NYY, Braves, D'Backs, Oakland)

Out of 4 teams, Cardinals look strongest but Anaheim are looking good nowdays.

I am not debating whether desis who like baseball are wannabes or not, but the game is very popular in the US... I dont like it, but it does not make me disrespect it...
