Pashto isn’t difficult to learn. I have a (Punjabi) friend who began learning about two and a half years ago and she speaks it reasonably well now (conversational). She’s still learning but can hold a conversation and understands quite a bit.
I must say though, it is one of those languages that one must practice in order get the hang of it, so it would be quite helpful if you have someone to speak to on a regular basis. Another thing to note is that there are two dialects and and certain words sound quite different in the two.
