I was just recentlly thinking that I dont know that much of the Formal Urdu, you know the shairo shairi, and the essays one. Anyone knows about some good resourses that help in learning formal urdu. I think we spend so many years chasing Engereizi zuban that we forget to concentrate on learning proper Urdu language apart from skimming Urdu Literature etc in high school

my fiance’s good with that stuff
i wanna learn though …i have really improved my urdu in the attempt

PS:** Bi’yan is ‘to tell’. Lughat is ‘language’ or ‘speaking’**. I still stand corrected.

i can speak with you fluently. and you can learn. but it is true, you must hear the accent.
and for that, if you have nice Urdu classes, you should join them.

I dont think that there are Urdu classes offered, or I dont know of any online maybe.
Im fine with verbal Urdu, Im talking about the you know the mushkal Urdu, written literature etc.

I learned my urdu from my friends. It is atrocious. smile

P.S. I am not dissing my friends, as they spoke urdu. I am dissing myself since I never really tried to learn it properly.

One of my friends got married in a Urdu speaking family…like really formal one…Now she is like “NArangi rang ki patloon pehneye howe hain”…trans “orange colored pants pehni howi hai”
So I was thinking maybe my kids have hope…they can learn after wards:D

Ask99: I think books ARE the best way to go. Maybe you can find stores on the internet which will sell books/ dictionaries that teach "advanced" urdu?

That really helps. I am learning Arabic (Grammar, etc..) from the Mufti Saab's wife. She is an Alimah, maybe if you have some one you know (who's very knowledgeable in your area of interest) they could teach you?
