Seriously, No Idea . But I think that bcz their last name changes after marriage , n if you are used to a specific name n it becomes difficult to change
in the corporate sector......
e.g ,
Yana Gupta, Gupta was her ex-husbee's name , but even now she is called by that.......So its ...I don't know........Sister I tried my level best to xplain it n i think you got somewhat a little bit picture tht why females avoid it

I don't think its just females. You might want to call up the corporation you're talking about and find out if they have a policy for employees giving out full names. Often, the name is made-up, to prevent stalking problems. And since the name is made-up, there is no reason to give a last name. Also, even if the real first name is given, last names are witheld again to prevent stalking issues. In a lot of places/positions, the person wont even give you a name - they might give you their dispatch number for example.
I have never seen it being an issue with females here. Maybe it was just a privacy thing, and you happened to talk to a female instead of a male.
