Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
Hi Mehnaz, just curious, is this including areas such as legs and underarms (that you experienced new growth)? And how long after Laser did you have your first pregnancy?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
I did laser in 2006 (Brazilian, full arms, underarms). The hair never disappeared 100%. However, it was substantially thinner and the growth was extremely slow. I was very satisfied.
During my pregnancy in 2008, the hair came back. I still get random long and thick hairs on my arms.
The hair now is still quite thin on my arms, but it’s all back on my underarms.
It’s really expensive. I spent quite a few thousand at the time when I got it all done. I do regret it now since the hair is all back.
I know it’s not the laser’s fault … it’s the hormonal imbalance that occurred during pregnancy which made the hair follicles reappear. I do wonder if it would have been different if I had a girl (more estrogen rather than testosterone in my body). ![]()
I also did electrolysis on the sides of my face and my chin area. The chin is still good, but the rest is all back. Oh well, I don’t care at this point.
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
Thanks for sharing. I've never heard of that happen on the underarms before.
I'm wondering if you finished Laser by the end of 2006? Meaning the pregnancy was only a year later? If there is was only a year gap, I think it's hard to say if it was the hormones. People who have had ineffective Laser treatments notice exactly the same a year after finishing.
It it were hormones, then it's either dormant follicles being activated, or follicles that were not completely destroyed being stimulated to produce stronger hairs again.
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
oh no... dont tell me its all gonna grow back later :( Have had about 300 sessions of 45 min electrolysis so far , on chin, neck, sideburns/cheek area and overlip. Dont know when i will be free of this pain! Im glad i dont hvae to pay for the full treatment, otherwise it would have been too expensive, but still if the hair is going to grow back later then its all in vain :(
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
H&NK - It shouldn't happen to a great extent unless there was something wrong with the initial treatment. If the treatment is effective, those follicles cannot produce hairs again, period. You can have dormant follicles being stimulated to start producing hairs - this is new hair and it's usually minimal. Like you just need some short touch up treatments. If it's ongoing, then it suggests a hormonal imbalance, or even some BCP does this, not hormone changes due to pregnancy for example.
The electrologist who is treating my sister has pointed out many times that she can expect the fine hairs on her chin to become thicker later in life, so we may want to get rid of them now. Once they are gone, they are gone! Not counting for new growth though.
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
Thank you for the clarification, feels better now!
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
victim of major laser induced hair growth. GRRRR $$$ down the drain. i think i might try electrolysis now. back in college I used in home electrolysis treatment for my bikini line. after one year of weekly treatments, I did see decreased growth. got pretty patchy and thin down there, smth i had never really anticipated. so if an in home electrolysis can achieve as much, might as well do an in office one.. just scared of needles and being poked
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
dooree - I'm really sorry to hear that. Did all this happen recently?
No need to be scared if you find a skilled electrologist with a modern epilator. shouldn't be to uncomfortable (face is generally okay) and will yield permanent results.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
Hey Stoppit, Thanks for the info. I've always wanted to get laser treatment but didn't know where to begin. Can u recommend where I can get laser treatment and an electrologist in the US ? I live in the NYC.
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
Romeo and Juliet Laser Hair Removal in NY comes highly recommended.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
Don’t mean to hijiack this thread - but i thought i’d post my experience. I naively started ipl then laser …on my face of all places!!! The shortened version: About a thousand pounds poorer, and hair regrowth worse than i what i had initially. When I started the hair wasn’t even thick it was just really fine (you know girls when they say it aint broke dont fix it…) but somehow I was stupid enough to get duped into having it done. ![]()
Rant over
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
Summayyah - You are not hijacking at all. I hope this is place where people can post their experiences - positive or negative. I'm sorry to hear this. I hope others will take heed. Laser is not appropriate for fine hair and on the face it can induce, whether the hair to be treated is coarse or fine.
The only thing I would suggest to others is that people wait until treatments are actually over before posting. It does not help anyone to prematurely post that it's worked well when one is still undergoing treatment. Even if it looks like it has worked, you need to wait 6 months to be sure of the reduction.
Electrolysis, ladies.. we are just back from abroad and my sister's face is so clear it's unbelievable. All anagen and telogen hairs were treated. The catogen cycle that will come through in the coming months will only be 30% of the original amount. The second clearance will leave her virtually hair free permanently. This is not typical work but any good electrologist will get there eventually.
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
Stoppit, that's great news about your sister's results, thanks for sharing. Is this the electrologist in Spain you'd mentioned earlier? When you refer to atypical results, is that because her technique is intense/excellent, or that the hair is fine/sparse (i.e. easier to kill)? Do you know of similar electrologists elsewhere who do large areas in one sitting, like North America?
Also, you mentioned her high first zap kill rate - is there a risk of scarring with that? I know someone who used to get treated on a high setting - she scarred initially, but they eventually healed and those hairs were zapped for good with just 2 rounds.
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
She is very skilled and is using equipment that matches her skill. So an Apilus Platinum (which she really knows how to use) and probes which minimise reaction by not causing unnecessary damage (there is an interesting story behind these and we are trying to get more people to try them but they are more difficult to use). I do know similar electrologists in North America but I wouldn't recommend this. I've come to realise, that although anyone can "do" this, not just anyone can do it with skill and care and the results she can. I know my electrologist's work very well and trust her. I had my upper lip done in London, it took a while but I got there and our Spanish electrologist said the work was good when she checked the area. Try to find someone near you who's good.
The kill rate... her equipment, technique etc, ensure that the reaction is as minimal as can be whilst ensuring permanent hair removal and only temporary. So we both have some degree of scabbing. I scabbed more on my face than my sister because apparently my skin is a lot more sensitive. But someone working like this needs to know their work implicitly - she told us the exact reactions she expected beforehand.
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
I started the laser hair removal treatment for my full face. I was told to shave the hair before the treatment. I don't feel too comfortable shaving my entire face/cheeks. Will that make my fine hair turn darker/thicker?
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
No. The shaving won't. It grows back stubbly because you are cutting the hair at its thickest point and it carries on growing with this blunt end, rather than the soft tapered natural end.
Laser might make make your fine hair turn darker/thicker though. As Summayyah discovered.
Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
but that thicker hair should eventually fall out and discontinue growth after the treatment completes right?
