Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

I had light hair that (I dont know why) I waxed, threaded and made them worse. Find a good electrologist. If you have gone through this entire thread, you would know what to look for. Once you find a good electrologist and spend few hours, the hair once removed with electrolysis either come back very light or do not come back at all.
I have been getting electrolysis on my side burns, neck and chin and all together in multiple sessions I have had total of 3 hours of electrolysis work done and I can go around without waxing, threading or doing anything to my facial hair. I am not 100% hair free yet.
You still have 3 more months until January.
My husband also did not know that I have hair problem, I waxed my hair at the time we got married and continued to do so. Many women have this problem so I am sure your husband will understand. Besides you are getting them treated so there should not be any problem.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Thank you so much for this reply sarad, I will try to find a good electrologist ASAP and let you know what happens, thanks for this reply!

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

what do u say about this home kit ?

http://www.body4real.co.uk/product.php?productid=18046&lang=DE

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

^ I have not used any home kits so I only read reviews of this product online. Half of the reviewers thought it worked and the other half said it did not.
If it does work, it will probably require lot of time and skill. The thing is we need to destroy the hair follicle and to do that you need to insert the needle correctly and the needle needs to reach the follicle so the current is absorbed by the hair follicle itself.

May be someone else has experience with it and can advise here.

I found this electrologist in Karachi from this website Find A Member : British Institute & Association of Electrolysis
Shazia Siddiqui Electrolysis Clinic, M-37/II/I, Karachi,
Kh-e-Ittehad, DHA, Karachi, Pakistan

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Hi again, so I looked on the internet and found an electrologist who lives literally 5mins away from me, I have a consultation with her on Wednesday, I will let you know how it goes! Inshallah all goes well!

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

^ Do go to a couple of consultations with a couple different electrologist so you can compare.
Go through this thread as well.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

First of all shout out to all the bloggers for this amazing thread.
I m getting LHR(coolglide ndYAG) on my face. Before starting the treatment i had coarse hair on my neck, chin, with less thick hair on my cheecks and upper lips, after 4mnths of treatment it has now changed into fine and soft hair. A family friend told me about electrolysis(she doesn't believe in laser,:p)
NOw my question is should i stick with laser or switch to electrolysis?
Anyone know good electrologist in karachi? I m moving to london next year, should i wait until then?
Does electrolysis cause scarring or any sort of indentation? Is it safe to do electrolysis on cheeks?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

From what I have read and understood, laser will not work on fine and light colored hair. If I were you, I will switch to electrolysis for the remaining hair. Electrolysis can be done on cheeks and it should not cause scarring or indentation. The most important thing is electrologist's skill. You may get scabbing but it should go away after a couple of days.
I copied a link for electrologist in Karachi in another post. You can go to her and get a consultation and decide for yourself if you want to wait until you get to London or get it done from Karachi.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

@ sarad...thank you for your response.
which post are you talking about?? Please post the link here or pm me.
Another thing i want to know whether electrolysis works on every patient??Even patients with hormonal problems?
How long does it take to clear the whole face??

There may be more electrlogist in Karachi. I just googled and found her.
How long it will take to do the entire face depends on the electrologist’s skill and may be the equipment.

I have had about 3 hours of work done on my sideburns, chin and neck and even though I am not 100% hair free and still plan on getting more sessions, I am able to go without removing hair with any other methods like waxing or threading.

I am sorry I do not know what will happen in case of hormonal problems and I do not want to misguide.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

@ sarad…Shazia doesnt do electrolysis anymore in khi, her sister however does it. She is not BIAE registered.
here is my electrolysis story…
I had 2 electrolysis sessions within one week in khi, total of one and a half hr work done on my neck and chin, now both of these areas totally clean. She used thermolysis method .
Immediately after treatment the area was red and swollen,(i did icing on the affected area after reaching home), i scabbed alot, had few pimples in those areas(is this normal?), with some brown spots. I still feel pain along my jawline. Was i being over treated?
I asked her about the aftercare, and she told me to keep the area dry. Nothing more.

Now,
Should i continue my treatment with her on the face(cheeks, upper lips and sideburns… She told me that my face needs full 3hrs for 1st clearance)? or i need to wait till the area which i have started with her is complete.
Secondly, what aftercare stuffs i need to use to minimize the reaction? I read about witch hazel ,tea tree oil and aleo vera.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

^ My electrologist puts on witch hazel after the treatment to soothe down. And yes if you think there is need, you can put on teatree oil or aloe vera.
I just make sure to put sunscreen on whenever I go out.
As for pain, my longest session has been 30 mins and I never felt pain on my sideburns or chin or neck. I got a couple of hair removed from my eyebrows and that part hurt (not too bad though) a couple days after the treatment as well. May be since you got 1.5 hrs of work done or may be your skin is more sensitive, I dont know.

Did you feel the needle insertion or the hair sliding out ? The only thing you should feel is the prick when the current goes in.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Redness and Swelling = Normal

Scabbing = Can also be a normal reaction depending on your skin plus countless other factors on the electrologist's side. Every treatment of a follicle is a tiny surgery in which part of the follicle is being damaged. You end up with micro wounds that need to heal. Scabbing can be part of this.

Pimples = I assume these are whiteheads? Also can be normal. You can minimise this by the electrologist cleaning the treatment area with soap and water immediately before treatment and then after treatment (with a cotton pad or ball). You should just keep the area clean with simple liquid soap and water and avoid any products for at least 24 hours. You can use aloe vera after the first clean of the area to cool it and act as a protective layer. Icing is also fine.

Brown spots - Typically his is post inflammatory hyperpigmentation which you will see when the scabs fall off. This will fade in time. Rosehip oil used when the scabs have come off is great to help the PIH fade.

Pain - The jawline is a sensitive area to treat and yes it can feel painful for sometime after.

I would advise against tea tree oil as it is very drying and dry skin will result in more of a reaction. Just aloe and if you want, a pure witch hazel distillation (called witch hazel water).

I would continue with this area for a while more before moving on to other areas, particularly the upper lip. I personally think the upper lip is one of the most difficult areas to treat well and the electrologist needs to take utmost care. I don't know what equipment she has but taking a guess, I would say that it is probably not a good idea to have more than 15 mins work done on the upper lip and spread it out as much as possible so you don't have close follicles treated in one session. And don't do more than 1 session a week... perhaps even 1 every two weeks. Putting overtreatment to one side, I think the upper lip skin is more delicate so requires special care.

I would ask the same Q as sarad. Do the hairs slide of effortlessly when she removes them after treating the follicle?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Hey stoppit. Where you would recommend getting electrolysis done in London? Thanks. :)

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

stoppit so good to see you back !!
I had a couple of questions about laser. I know you do not recommend getting packages but after seeing a good groupon deal and researching the practice I bought one for my legs. I waxed and after about 12 weeks had my first appointment. The hair came back (only slightly less) so I got my second treatment after about 8 weeks when it seemed to me the hair had come back.
I dont care if I cannot use all six treatments within the year so wanted to know if 8 to 10 week is a good enough gap between the treatments for both lower and upper legs.
Also I have a couple of areas where I have ingrown hair. The technician told me that laser will kill the hair but I need to exfoliate but it does not seem to be helping. Do you have any other tips for those ingrown hair.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

I'm not really back, but it's better that I make the odd post so people are properly informed.

8 weeks is too soon for the legs. If you are getting almost full shedding, the next cycle shouldn't really even start to come through until about 6 weeks after the previous session. About 12 weeks between sessions is right for the legs.

It depends on the type of ingrown hair. If they are fine hairs, Laser won't effect them. I had a lot of fine haired ingrowns of the type that grow in a tight curl and are trapped near the surface of the skin and Laser didn't make any difference to these. I've just had them removed with electrolysis recently and finally have completely smooth legs.

General comment, please read my first post, it covers stuff like this!

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

@ sarad and stoppit...thanks for responding.God bless
I dont know what type of machine my electrologist is using. I felt needle touching my skin, with slight pressure in neck n jaw areas, but hair ALWAYS slide out easily. I showed my face to her today, she told me that i scabbed along my jawline bc she had to give me high current bc of thick hair and there is nothing to worry about. Only keep the face dry.
I am getting married at the end of this year and will move to London till june next year ia. I want atleast one full clearance of my face before i move to london. The other troublesome area is my cheecks, lots of fine hair.. But u guys are right, i should not rush to other areas and wait for the results.
She didnt apply any products for aftercare, and witch hazel and alleo vera gel is not available at 2 places i checked in karachi.
Do i need to b scared about scarring or pitting?
