Why we pashtuns need to speak urdu at homes when our mother tongue is pashto?we are speaking our language for last 4 thousnads years.....we use urdu(in pakistan) and dari in (afghanistan) to communicate with other ethnicities.....
My dad was from khi mum from africa and we live in the uk. My dads family speak hindko. Mothers side swahili/punjabi/hindko my nan is mixed race so we grew up with alot of swahili words in our mix n match lingo
Urdu self taught mostly would read my dads Jung newspaper and he would teach me also. In madrassah we had urdu studies, so all us siblings can speak it as usual when goin khi urdu comes handing. I feel its so important to learn your mother tounge and not necessarily just urdu
My husbands side his nephews and nieces know nothing and its kknda sad they 'forgot'
Re: Language
I've seen Gujarati families from India where the kids do not know Hindi and only know their mother tongue. I've seen some South Indians like that too.
In Pakistani families is their an avoidance of teaching Urdu at home when the mother tongue is different. Are their some communities that refuse to use Urdu at home?
Are you talking about overseas based ones. Yes i have seen that too. They don't speak much Urdu, but are extremely fluent in the regional languages spoken in the areas/regions their families actually hail from. punjabi, saraiki, potohari, swahili etc
But i won't say it is avoidance.

Why would we use Urdu if our mother tongue isn't Urdu? We have every right to use a regional language at home because the 4 regional languages are "official" provincial languages...Sindhi is an official language in Sindh assemblly..same way law maker in KPK can communicate in Pashto. If there is avoidance of teaching Urdu then it is our choice and right
