Lambe Baal

Re: Lambe Baal

Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing.

So Industrial revolution enbded romanticism of long hair in west, but still we see people like Michael Jackson with long hair. There might be areas in west, which are not affected by revolution. Areas, where people might be near to nature. Do ladies in such areas still follow this love for long hair.

Re: Lambe Baal

I always had long hairs, and I was always confident that I am beautiful :)

Re: Lambe Baal

In Post World War Two Western societies, longer hair in men was considered a sign of rebellion, fashion statement in newly established pop/rock culture whilst a century or two ago, long hair in men was seen as a sign of nobility.

I used to know an Irish girl in University who had waist long naturally straight auburn hair. She was from a small town in North of Ireland, I'm not sure if it was just her or it was usual for women in her town to have longer hair, but the length and colour of hair would attract enough attention and praise. Similarly, in my School days, I used to know a very traditional Jewish Polish family and all the girls in their family had hip long hair. So I guess you can say there are still people in the West who still prefer long hair.

But I think generally, in West the idea of long hair has changed. My mid length hair which is considered short by my mother is classified as long in Western Salons and outside.

Re: Lambe Baal

extra long hair is a health hazard in most work places. this Mennonite girl working for one of the departmental stores in my city was fired for this reason. her hair was extra long reaching a few inches above her ankles. she was told either to cut her hair short or resign. she refused both which led to her dismissal. she went to court and lost. the court sided with the employer citing her hair as work-place health hazard.

Re: Lambe Baal

way to ruin the essence of a thread....

Re: Lambe Baal

i have long hair, comes down to lower back. i always keep it below shoulders, never shorter than that. my mom always made us keep long hair because she was traditional like that. i think in western culture its considered exotic.

Re: Lambe Baal

My hair is now longer than it's ever been...about 2-3 inches above my waist, MashaAllah. I wish it had more volume though. I've had it shoulder-length a few times, but I feel it doesn't suit my face as much any more. The shortest I've gone was a pixie cut and that was fun.

Re: Lambe Baal

BTW are there feminsit who think that long hair (their maintenance) is also hindrance in female empowerment like roti making? :cb:

Re: Lambe Baal

Oh yes, absolutely. Plenty of feminists have opposed and dislike traditional ideas of femininity and desired notions of beauty.
