Hijab looks silly. I used to date this Iraqi girl whose father forbade her from wearing it for that very reason, it was stupid. She didnt mind it, but I had to agree with her father's civilized opinion.

I am not calling niqab or hijab as batman costume, although i have in past. I have reformed since then.
I am merely requesting that since the estemmed scholar thinks that cobering oneself is some sort of royal piety thingmajigie mumbo jumbo, that if I have to feel royally pious can I wear a batman costume?

I dont think it looks silly. it is a person's choice to wear it, and u have no say in what the person chooses to wear unless u are that person or u control that person or what that person is wearing is against the law and youa re enforcing the law.
I would say lowrise jeans on fat chicks with plumber butts look silly but thats their choice.

It was her father who prohibited it...I merely spoke in support of that view when asked. There was no input from me in the decision.

The problem with Hareem and her kind of Muslims is that they are engaged in 'shirk' all the time. They say that they only worship Allah, but they are indulged in a new form of new form of idol worship. They will suspend all logic and thinking in favor of their favorite Imam, Molvi, Aalim or anyone with a beard. Aahadith often trump Quran, and their Molvi often trumps God. So intense is their urge to follow anyone with a pro-Islam slogan, that they live their entire lives in contadiction. Islam is a religion of peace, yet they defend those who adop violent ways. There is no compulsion in Islam, yet they defend (on this very page actually) Lal-Masjid goons who advocate throwing acid on girls faces.
We are suffering because a large majority of Muslims are living in denial. Anyone with a beard can do no wrong. Hijabi Ninjas are divine messengers. Anyone who objects to anything they say, is a Murtid. Every post I read from Hareem/Lajawab/LaeeqKhan drives me one more step away from identifying myself as a Muslim. These folks are talented!

If people can drive you away from Islam, they you've missed the point, you'd be better off furthering the distance...

were you there with Shaykh Hamza when he was studying? Shaykh Hamza himself is teaching traditional Islam.
Were you there when Shaykh Hamza was studying? One can ssume that Shayk Hamza has been exposed to many variants of Islamic thought, including the fanatic, kill everything that doesnt think like you variety... And yet he chooses to follow a seperate path. I think this has to do with the fact that he is from a more open society, that is secular to great extent, and recognizes the rights of individuals.
Traditional Islam needs defining... As far as im concerned, Islamic teachers should deal solely with matters spiritual, how one can better oneself, and come closer to god.
Go to one of our "traditional" mullahs and its long lectures on Jihad, the Kufar, politics of one type or another... These people have really DESTROYED the image of Islam... There are SOOOOOO many of them, and they spout there BS for the world to hear... Its a field day for anyone who accuses Muslims of being violent, as they can easily find a list of Mullahs who prove their point.

I know Hamza Yusuf is a traditional muslim.....first his teachers are or were traditional and second they teach traditional Islam in California in Zaytuna.....like Imam Muhasbi Imam Tahawi......................Try reading shaykh Hamza Yusuf's " creed of Imam Al-Tahawi" an english translation of Imam Tahawi's 1200 years old book.
